I watched the first two episodes of season 2 of Pushing Daisies, and in 2x02, I caught what I believe is a reference to Dead Like Me... Ned said he went under cover through the temp employment agency "Happy Time"! Where George worked for most of two seasons. Do the two shows have writers in common? Anyway, it cheers me to think they exist in the same verse. There's a lot of similarity there.

Yup, the same guy (Bryan Fuller) worked on them and Wonderfalls. :)

If I remember correctly, the character of Ned was originally going to be introduced on Dead Like Me (as George's boyfriend, I believe?). When DLM was canceled, though, Bryan Fuller decided to develop the idea into a new series - and PD was born.

Close. Actually, what was going to happen (as BF related in a few interviews) was that the reapers on DLM were going to discover that some souls were being "stolen" from them, and weren't there when the reapers went to reap them. And that this would be due to Ned...and then there would be a sort of rivalry set up between George and Ned, and then Ned's story would get spun off into its own thing.

Also, Bryan Fuller didn't just work on Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, and Pushing Daisies---he created all three of them. Though he had numerous disagreements with Showtime and departed DLM to go work on Wonderfalls, which is why it isn't as distinctively "his" as both Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies are.

In interviews about this season of Pushing Daisies, he's mentioned that all three shows do take place in the same universe, and that he was planning to sort of sprinkle clues (and possibly have crossovers) amongst the three throughout the season. :)

Ah. I vaguely remembered reading about it in one of those interviews, but it's been awhile so I couldn't recall the details. Thanks for clearing it up!
