Promo pics are up for the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie.

1. Wow, Aang looks young. And white. The staff looks kinda cool in that pose, though.

2. WTF)!(@!QA(@#&!!!#*()*()@!!!!!! ZUKO'S SCAR. WHERE IS IT?

3. ETA: I'm hoping I see a faint shadow line. I'm hoping.

ETA: COMMENTS NOW CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR STAR TREK 2009.

Maybe the photo is a flashback to before the Agni Kai?

The Costumes are lovely though.

Aang's is good. I'm not sold on Zuko's yet.

I have to confess, Aang always looked white to me in the cartoon, so that look works for me.

He does look hella young though. Imagining that kid giving anyone an open-mouth kiss makes me shudder.

I'm sorta half-and-half myself. I like the look of the costumes, and both actors look better in their respective roles than I would've expected (though, yeah, Aang's whiteness still sticks out...), but there's something very...off-kilter...about these shots that I can't really put my finger on just yet. Lack of Zuko!scar unnerves me, too.

To me, at least, Aang's skin tone always looked white (or at least pale) but his facial features did not look Caucasian/European, which this kid's definitely do. In fact he looks a little pasty to me. ;)

But yeah, the kissing aspect was actually my first thought. A world of "ew" if that's in the movie - I was even slightly creeped out by the show, for that matter. ^_~

Same.

Actually, those pics look really cool - I'm getting excited again!

(Although I'm mentally cringing at how Katara's going to look.)

WAKE UP, FOOL. JOIN THE REVOLUTION.

I would have not used a mildly spoilery icon, except...it's been two weeks since the movie came out, dammit, and I NEEDED to make it.

Oh my god, I saw it on Friday, and this has taken over my entire fandom experience for the last three days. SEE IT. I want to hear your views on it!

.p.s. There's absolutely no way you can see this movie and not understand why I do what I do. You know me! OMG, trust me, you have to see it. It's like a straight up awesome popcorn sci-fi movie PLUS SHIP MADE JUST FOR RASHAKA.

That was my first thought, but in the TV series, wasn't he on his knees, begging for his father's forgiveness? His stance in that photo is certainly not one I'd imagine him taking in front of his father in that situation, pre-self-discovery, that is...

In any case, maybe my rage blinds me, but I cannot see the faint shadow line, just a mess of pixels. (And if that IS Zuko's scar, then it's hardly better than Gerard Butler's "deformed" face in the Phantom of the Opera movie.) There is no silver lining! >(

DAMN YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU here I was going "maybe I will get away without making a Star Trek post today" except AW DAMN THERE YOU MADE ME DO IT.

I--I can almost understand why you do what you do. Except for the part where IT IS SPOCK. AND UHURA. my mom says I just wasn't watching TOS for enuff subtext and I tartly responded that the only subtext anyone cares about in that show is Kirk/Spock (Spock/Kirk? you decide). ...SPOCK. AND UHURA*.

I have more views! Most of them involve "yay that was a lot of fun but WHO WANTS TO LIVE IN A UNIVERSE WHERE VULCAN GOT BLOWED UP OMG." But I will be more detailed. Maybe. If there's cookies involved.

*who is not only a junior officer BUT HIS STUDENT i'm pretty sure there are regulations about that just saying Jim really ought to have a field day.

I--I can almost understand why you do what you do.

They gave us a movie that was partly a High School AU fanfic, partly a normal AU fanfic, and they made two characters, one of them being a completely iconic character, involved in a [mildly at least] taboo teacher/student relationship that they don't even reveal for certain until halfway into the movie after the now woobiefied-Spock just has his planet destroyed (because he's the Ninth Doctor now) and someone--the audience, Uhura, Uhura-for-the-audience--needed to give the guy a hug.

The only thing to top that in ship appeal for me would be to have Nero be a really hot woman instead of Eric Bana, and then Kirk and Really Hot Villain Woman have all sorts of enemies UST. But I'm not sure that'd be a good movie.

Except for the part where IT IS SPOCK. AND UHURA. my mom says I just wasn't watching TOS for enuff subtext and I tartly responded that the only subtext anyone cares about in that show is Kirk/Spock (Spock/Kirk? you decide). ...SPOCK. AND UHURA*.

I am not so burdened by prior canon as you. I've seen the movies, and...maybe...6 or 7 original episodes? I'm a TNG kid. It's a bit like DW or Marvel comics for me...I know there's prior canon. I might even have seen a bit of prior canon. But it doesn't factor in at all to what I'm shipping now.

*who is not only a junior officer BUT HIS STUDENT i'm pretty sure there are regulations about that

But that is the most LOL-tastic part of it! Because...it's Spock. You'd expect it of Jim. But. SPOCK, DUDE. How different is this world, if Kirk grows up as a sloppy, insulting, good-for-nothing youth with father issues and Spock grows up to be a lot more emotional, rebellious, and full of repressed anger than we remember?

see the interesting thing about this movie versus DC or Marvel movies is that they explicitly reference a) the existence of canon material and b) the fact that this is ALTERNATE REALITY CANON in which case they can do...pretty much whatever they want. So technically I...should not care. Or...something? It is confusing. I made a post though!

Also may I just say this movie was a waste of Eric Bana's hotness I totally forgot that was him/spent part of the movie wondering if it was going to turn out that he was an alternate reality Spock being played by Zach Quinto.

IT SHOULD BE LOL-TASTIC BUT IT JUST MAKES ME SAD INSIDE. D:
