HOPE IS A THING WITH FEATHERS

Author: Emily Dickinson

Hope is a thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings a tune without words
And never stops at all.

And sweetest, in the gale, is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That keeps so many warm.

I've heard it in the chilliest land
And on the strangest sea
Yet, never, in extremity
It ask a crumb of me.

I've always loved this poem. Dickinson has always been one of my favorite poets, next to Sylvia Plath.

My absolute favorite of hers is Mad Girl's Love Song, but she also has a lot of others, like Cut and Mirror. Here is a site with most of her poems if you want to take a look.

She also wrote her one and only novel The Bell Jar, which I thought was absolutely amazing. At times it scared me, it was so real. Have you read it before?
