Well, today was a big nothing day. On the plus side-- my sinus infection is mysteriously disappeared. Also on the plus side... my best friend's gonna set me up wiht this nice guy she knows. Down side-- he's like 22 or something. Which is not scary/bad or anything, just a little intimidating, cause that's still four years older than me, and I don't really really feel like that much of an adult YET. I'd like.. ya know... a nice 19 year old. But its cool to meet people, and who knows. Besides, more friends are good.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 10 on my PS-2 all evening (I got it for graduation), and I just died during the confrontation with Maester Seymour. Who the heck does that game villain think he is, anyway, summoning up a demon aeon that's bigger and meaner than mine and killing all my players?! Now I have to go all the way back and beat the Al-bhed guys too, sit through all that jabbering (the game has way too much story dialogue), and do all that walking before I get back to fight him again... after which I'll most likely die again anyway. Oh well.

:sing-song voice: I got it, I got it!

Kagome's voice-actor on IY is the same woman who did the voice of Raye/Mars in the Sailor Moon dubbing! The second voice actrees to play Raye, I mean, not the one from the first two seasons.

I feel so pleased. This has been bugging me since the cartton network started running IY. hheheeeheee...

Ok, now that I'm over that.... time to bitch about the dubbing. In the anime fandom community, the argument over subbed (subtitled) or dubbed (englsih voices dubbed over original the japanese) is the source of much bitterness, fan angst, and chat wars. Usually, I'm cool with dubbing, because it gets more people exposed to anime, and it is easier to watch.

But they ruined my Inu-Yasha episode! They added all these stupid monolgues where the characters just stand there and recite their motivations! Like reading the newspaper outloud! UGH! Bad translation, and particular bad acting in this ep! In the manga (comic), Rumiko Takahashi creates very funning dialogue-- totally lost here. They cut out my FAVORITE line!! "Well, and I thought you'd be eaten by now." And this other really funny line was overly-simplified, and wasn't funny at all anymore. ARgh! And the whole hero-worship thing between Kagome's little brother Sota and Inu-Yasha... wasn't nearly as funny in the dub.

This makes me mad, especially since in earlier episodes the English translation wasn't bad at all, and mostly followed the Japanese version (which followed the manga almost line for line). Dubbing usually gets BETTER as the show goes on-- not worse.

Grrr... I definitely don't like Inu-Yasha's voice actor-- the one who did Ranma Soatome in Ranma 1/2... he's not doing well in this part at all. I almost wish they're replace him-- except switching voice-actors mid-season is another one of my gripes about dubs. I'll just have to hope he starts acting better. Some voice-actors don't put enough effort into what they're doing, and it really shows. In animated stuff like anime or caroons, doing the voice correctly is extra important, because the actor isn't able to convey anything with body language. Some of them just don't seem to get that though.
