BFO (blinding flash of the obvious)
Nov. 15th, 2002 11:56 amSometimes I'm SO late for clueing into things, its pathetic. I think its cause I see connections between things that other people tell me I'm weird for seeing, so maybe that's why I often don't see the obvious.
For example, about four days ago I was talking to my family about Star Trek villians, and I just realized out of the blue that the name 'Borg' was short for 'cyborg'. You'd think it'd be obvious the first time you see an ep with them, but I'd never said the two words before in a sentece, and it simply never occured to me. Kinda pathetic, huh? I mena, I'd watched ST: Next Gen practically since it first started, back when I was a wee little kid under ten. I grew up with that show as a steady presence on my tv. I've watcehd a lot of DS9, and some of Voyager (especialy early seasons). The Borg was the major villian in NextGen, Voyager, AND a ST movie. And I simply never clued in that 'borg' came from 'cyborg'. That's me, totally clueless.
Let's take another example. Just a few minutes ago, I was reccomending that
anniesj use 69 postition as a part of her to-be-written wild sex vignette series for B/S. And it wasn't until I was writing the response to her response to my suggestion that it hit me WHY 69 is called 69. I had to SEE the number (the third time) to see the visual of reversal/inverted-symmetry that the slang term is derived from. I knew WHAT it was of course, and I could describe it in detail, but the reason it was actually called '69' had never occurred to me until now.
I mentioned this blind spot to my dad as an example of my ditsiness on some things, and he agrees that it's pretty stupid.
God this is embarassing. And I just KNOW that at some later situation I'm gonna have a mini BFO and mention it out loud, and horribly embarass myself. :sarcasm: Something I'm so looking forward to.
