My favorite line from TV in a good long while:

"Oh I do admire your compartmentalization of duplicity."

Damn. Why can't I think up sentences like that? Hell, why can't I think up situations that call for sentences like that?

I can't believe there's only one episode left. I'm in a state of grieving right now.

I've been thinking a lot about Farscape recently, as its nearing its final episode. I've also been thinking about Farscape fic-- something I've never had great desire to read. I've read a few ficlets or vignettes that other people might have rec'd, but for the most part I've never felt the need. It's like-- the show satisfies me completely, so that I don't have to go looking for other stories elsewhere.

But I was thinking, and I realized that I'd like to read some FS fanfic that features outside points of view about Crichton and Moya's crew. How do the aliens, the ones they met or the ones they haven't, think about the main characters? Over the show we've seen that the reputation of John and his friends has spread very far, and that havoc & chaos are things commonly attached to his name.

Other fandoms have fics like this-- where a walk-on character or imaginary casting extra observes the characters from the sidelines, and the reader gets a peak into how the rest of that world views the insanity of the main characters. Buffyfic does this with Sunnydale residents. Ranma 1/2 fic does this with Nerima residents, etc etc.

So... here's my question. Do any of the fic readers on LJ know of any good Farscape fics that do this? That are written from a sort of outsider's perspective, or that deal with how the rest of the galaxy views the crew, or John, or humanity?

for tonight.

I'm sitting down to watch the entire Kenneth Branagh film version of Hamlet.

This is four hours. I've barely started, but I'm already loving it, I think. KB is sexy, whispering all that rhyming Old English to the empty air and such... and plus Kate Winslet is in this. I've always liked watching her on screen. Looking at the cast list, there's so many other people that I like here as well... I'm getting excited. I've also got my lit book here to follow along with the parts I've already read, and see how they interpret various scenes.

Their version of the ghost in the opening was kind of corny, but not terrible. The scene of Gertrude and Claudius' wedding was gorgeous though, absolutely lovely to look at. And KB's portrayal of Hamlet's rant about his mother that followed directly after was fabulous too. Some of y ou all are probably going to tar and feather me for saying this, but I can't believe he was in a Harry Potter film. He seems way too cool. Also, I thought very poorly of the first HP movie, and this has left me suspicious to sequels. So I'm still waiting for the video to come out before I watch Chamber of Secrets. What also interests me, though, is reading that Alan Cumming was considered for it... he's more like what I pictured the character to be.

But maybe if this thing I read about KB directing the next one would be true (since the third book was my favorite), I might be interested then.

Feh. I must go now--- still 3.5 hours of Shakespeare dialogue left to view. Thank god for a VCR, which I can pause and rewind as many times as necessary to comprehend what they're saying.

Ok, Kenneth Branagh? Looking good with the nakedness.

I'd only read about a third of this play so far in and of itself, so I've been reading along with it as the movie goes. The movie seems to be word for word perfect so far, except for a weird voice-over monologue that Hemlet did while running through the bog to find his father's ghost. That monologue must have been cut and pasted from another part of the play, or left out of my book (Folger Library) entirely.

I've decided to make an icon of this love poem from Hamlet to Ophelia:

Doubt thou the star are fire,
Doubt that the sun doth move,
Doubt truth to be a liar,
But never doubt I love.

Impending tragedy aside, this will make a wonderful Spuffy icon.

Long movies breed incessant snacking.

ETA: Also, Hamlet is a rather obnoxious and embarassing guy in public.

Then again, I can see that where he's coming from, he doesn't really care much about public image. Probably the opposite.

ETA #2:

Take The Ewan McGregor Test!

Hmmm... almost got Christian. But I loved 'A Life Less Ordinary'... so funny.
