::sits down in third attempt to watch Saiyuki DVD #1, and actually succeeds this time::

5 minutes in:

Oh thank god, this is much more tolerable in anime form than in manga.

Huh. At least there's some attempt at a little characterization and they're not totally just thrown together like so many pancakes. It's possible I could even like this at some point.

Ooooooo...the demons get dusted just like on Buffy. Doesn't seem very plausible, being as they're not vampires and last I heard scythes didn't come with vaporize-your-enemies as a standard option. Maybe he paid extra.

Oh my gosh, I know what this show is. This show is the yaoi verson of Fushigi Yuugi. Look at those character and scenery designs.

I suppose I can dig that. I liked FY.

Ok, I love all the cussing. Sounds awfully familiar.*

Who is the voice for green guy? With the jeep. His English voice sounds so dang familiar to me.

"There's something I need to confirm." **deep music tolls**

Oh my god, it's the rising music of doom! MUSIC OF DOOM! Could this be, perhaps, a dramatic revelation? SAY IT ISN'T SO, MY FRIEND! SAY IT'S NOT THAT!

This is so cheesy.

Okay, that still picture during the lecture from the temple people where we see the other three's faces in the background and Sanzo floating in front in swirly ribbons of scrolls?

So. Fushigi. Yuugi.

In fact, I'm pretty sure I have printed out pictures from FY art books exactly like that.

Oh, on another note. I don't think Sanzo is cute at all. His eyes are droopy. His whole demeanor is droopy.

Therefore, in all future posts (or at least when I remember), he will be known as Droopy, or Priest Droopy, or Holy Droopy Monk, etc etc.

EDIT: Continuing my thought from the post about 5 minutes ago, I don't know about the scythe but it seems like demon-dusting powers are and installation option, and Droopy Monk seems to have chosen the extra features over size compensation. I'm not surprised the demon laughed at him though.

Upside: I like how everyone says "Oh shit!" to everything.

"That demon is attacking us! Oh shit!"

"Oh shit! I yanked my hair on that tree!"

"Oh shit, my eyes droop upside down yet I still manage somehow to see through them!" *

* ::is aware, of course, that odd-shaped eyes do not strictly prohibit one from having what is assumed to be a normal level of vision ability in the typical anime universes, but chooses to comment anyway because is busy amusing self and that is always worth the effort::

::blinks::

Why is it everyone else has Fushigi Yuugi hair but green dragon boy has hair like he stepped out of an early Rumiko Takahashi universe?

----

Dude, whoever mentioned this was a video game is right. This _is_ like a video game. And it has more dramatic poses than a DBZ episode. Am I supposed to start giggling during the Serious!Thinking!DroopyMonk parts? Cause I have been and I feel vaguely guilty about it because I'm pretty certain that's not supposed to be the funny part, guessing by the bondage imagery.

I accidentally recorded over the premier of Dead Like Me with the Democratic National Convention.

FUCK!

Now I'll have to download it or whatever. Fuck. Regular tv shows always turn up mysteriously dark on my monitor, even with the brightness at maximum.

::watches speech of Barak Obama::

Ok, John Kerry who? I want this dude.

Well, maybe next term, after he's been in the Senate for a while. And he does deserve a Senate seat for that speech.
