timepiececlock: (Logan/Veronica love stories)
Rented and watched The Jacket. Mostly because I'd recently gone to see King Kong for the second time and was still revelling in my lust for Adrian Brody. I have difficulty explaining my lust for Adrian Brody because he's so far away from Brad Pitt or Orlando Bloom types of pretty. Instead it's like I lust because his face is so damn interesting, and he always looks a little vulnerable like a puppy (I'm such a sucker), and that's balanced by a set of enormous pretty eyes. And his body is fantastic.

Actually, his body was so tasty in this film that I almost disagreed with it, for character reasons. He's spending weeks to months in a mental hospital where sometimes he's so weakened by treatments he has to be put on IVs. And yet.... HE HAS A PERFECT NARROW 8-PACK AND THE HIPBONE CUT. So, um, yeah, what's up with that? ...Not that I'm complaining. Just curiously amused.

But dude, enough tangenting over Adrian Brody's numinous hotness. ((Except, OMG, you know that line he says in Kong about playwriting right before the first kiss? Not the words line, the two before that. OMG PANTY-WETTING HOTNESS. I want him to leave me pervy voice mails in that voice.))

The Jacket was weird. I felt at the end that they both tried to do too much and did a little less than they should have. A good movie, but not a great one--it's odd but hard to express.

Overall, I liked it. I liked the ending, and I was curious enough to sit through the beginning parts and the sad/miserable parts in the first half. I think the movie was going for tension and disturbing stuff, but it never really got to tension for me. It was just sad. The way that One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was sad. The way anything having to do with a mental ward is inevitably saddening. Misery is saddening and a lot of miserable shit happens to Jack Starks.

But the second half of the movie jogged along at a speedy pace, and I liked the ultimate direction Starks' character took. His motivations toward the latter parts of the movie came across very strongly (Brody really is an awesome actor), and I really bought into the love story subplot/plot. Brody and Kierawhat'shername had beaucoup de chemistry. They were hot. And I fully believed the time-jumpiness of their emotional connection.
