Confession
Jun. 20th, 2008 12:44 amI wish I'd known about LARPers when I was in middle or high school. Hell, even junior college. I would have been on that shit like white on artificially blanched rice.
I don't know if I'd've grown up more geeky if that had happened (I'm pretty geek anyway), or if I'd've even liked it past the first few attempts, but I can't say the idea isn't without it's appeal. It's like theater... except you don't have to have talent, and every show is about monsters and swordfights and ninjas and spells, and it's not your day job.
But, as it is, I find the idea of it now (in my twenties) to be...boring. At least how it looks on youtube videos of people. I might one day be convinced to cosplay, but only if I had a costume appropriate to my physical appearance and only if I was with a group that I trusted not to ditch me. Or, you know, for a costume party.
Now, if, for example, you got fifty people in someone's old building, souped everyone up with fake blood bags, passed out "identities" so at least two people were secretly murderers, removed 4 out of 5 lightbulbs and proceeded to have a live horror game where everyone who "dies" has to then be spook staff and the survivors have to figure out the "murderers" before everyone gets killed or the game ends... well, that would be fun. I don't need vampires or werewolves, I'd actually get quite a kick out of a Scream scenario game. Do people ever do games like that? I could dig it. *
Or lazer tag. That's fun too.
* my AmeriCorps team last year made a haunted house and we scared the shit out of people and it was GREAT.
