LJ style info - VERY USEFUL
Jul. 26th, 2003 03:25 amThrough some strange twist of fate, the dude who came up with the Components format for LJ (who is not a Buffy, anime, or Rashaka fan) randomly commented on my journal, talking about it.
This kind of thing normally doesn't happen to me, but it did, and I count it quite fortuitous.
Anyway, he came up with a set of instructions for Addition customizations for Component, including:
-line spacing
-adding additional boxes (components) for either an image or more text
It's very useful. I'd also reccomend reading the post comments; they should help clarify as well.
For my own, I created a second text box. It's over on the right. The first box has lyrics from 'Another Horsedreamer's Blues' by Counting Crows. The second box is an original haiku I thought up to test the space. I kinda like it so I'll keep it for a while.

I thought this wasn't possible! THANK YOU!

Date: 2003-07-26 06:55 am (UTC)And thanks for posting that link too. I've been wondering about that. I almost switched to component in S2 yesterday, but I couldn't figure out how do get anything but the basic layout and change the colors so I gave up (quickly).
I'm very frustrated over another computer-related problem at the moment, but I saved the post you linked to my favorites to read later when I'm calm and less like Spike in the school basement.

Date: 2003-07-26 10:37 am (UTC)Thank you! It's been a fun experiment, and I like changing my look after a year.
Everything from the gorgeous Spuffy photo manipulation I was gazing at while the comments page loaded
Actually,
to the comment links (whispers in a cave...perfect),
That was the trickiest one to decide. I also really really like the comments links I have on my friends page, so it was a tough call. Thank you, especially about the haiku. Haiku and I don't always work.

You should go to AnnieSJ's journal and about 3 posts down she talks about some stuff with S2 that is also useful, like changing the font, that can be combined with the linked post. That's how I figured some stuff out.
Re: welcome
Date: 2003-07-26 12:27 pm (UTC)Since the
's are what you have to use within the text boxes to break the lines, and since the for italics work too, I'm hoping that you can also do the 's in there as well. So, new link boxes! WEEE!
At least, that's my theory. I'll test it out this afternoon.

Date: 2003-07-26 12:41 pm (UTC)At least, that's my hope. I'll play around this afternoon and find out for sure.
I also asked you what the "Welcome" in the subject line was for. I haven't joined any new groups recently, and wanted to make sure you didn't think I was someone I wasn't.
That's all! :)
Re: welcome
Date: 2003-07-26 01:53 pm (UTC)hopefully (a href)'s could also be used within the new text boxes to create links.
I'm fairly certain you can.
Re: welcome
Date: 2003-07-26 02:18 pm (UTC)Aha! Mystery solved! See, you were saying "welcome to the community/group," rather than "you're welcome for the favor/info."
Some mornings my brain just doesn't work the way it should.
Cheers!

Date: 2003-07-26 07:37 pm (UTC)Yes, change is good. I really want to change mine to this style -- it's just so pretty. And I could never get the colors to change right with the S1 styles. And I love how you can add these boxes with whatever text you want...so nifty!
It looks better the proper left-to-right way. Save it and look at thw whole thing. It's all "hands."
It is gorgeous. I couldn't save it of course (stupid corrupt bmp files...err), but I set as background so I could see the whole thing.
Thank you, especially about the haiku. Haiku and I don't always work.
That's hard to imagine. It's perfectly beautiful. I tend to be long-winded when I write so I've never been all that good at haiku. But I do love reading them.

Thanks. I'll definitely have to check that out as well. It'll give me something fun to do that my computer is actually currently capable of.
