I know Kung Fu.
Oct. 11th, 2003 09:51 amWell, ok, bit of an exagerration, but I'm getting there!
Last night, after the two hours of Aikido class at school. I stayed for the two hour Kung Fu / Tai Chi Club. Whoa, are my muscles killing me this morning. My butt, my legs-- I woke and immediately went inot a bath for a half hour. Then I just lay on the couch for a half hour, trying to get my body functioning again.
The Kung Fu instructor, Proffessor Wang, actually said "No pain, no gain." It's like, scary but fun.
Kung Fu is very different from Aikido. In the beginning of high school I took Aikido for about a year and a half. I just started it again two weeks ago, every Friday, as an actual class at my college. Aikido requires so much mental discipline; it's all about skill and remaining centered and using the other person's energy against them. It's very dangerous, but not very aerobic. Kung Fu, from what I saw and tried for two hours last night, is like a "Very Aerboic Aikido. With Punching." It's also all about balance. Which I have none of beyond the normal walking.
Anyway, with the combination of those two, my muscles are killing me. And in an hour and 15 minutes I have to go to work, and stand on my feet for 5 1/2 hours. Lucky me.
I'm going to be so fit by the end of this quarter. Seriously. I have to walk all around campus every day. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I get 30-40 minutes of walking in because I have to park far away from the senators office when I go to my internship downtown, and it's a 15 minute walk. On Saturdays and Sundays I'm spending at least 10-12 hours on my feet total, serving ice cream and really usings my wrists to mix it. Then on Fridays I'm doing what amounts to 4 hours of martial arts training. On top of that, I'm going to have to start doing katas at least two of nights of Monday through Thursday. I'm going to have toe practice the Kung Fu movements if I'm ever going to be balanced. And it's not good to have heavy exercise for 3 days and only very mild exercise of four days. Damn, this will be exhausting.
