But Sark of Alias is not pretty.

He's ok. He's got nothing on Spike, or Season1!Angel, or Taye Diggs, or Jared Leto. That's pretty men.

Brad Pitt. Mulder wearing glasses. Ewan McGregor. Even Chris Martin. Of course, Jude Law. That long-haired Asian Guy who played the dead cop ghost on Witchblade. Joseph Fiennes. That hip-hop guy, D'Angelo. Aragorn. Orlando Bloom. Matthew McConaughey! Pretty pretty pretty.

Not to say Sark's not nice looking. He's attractive in a way, but I don't hold with "he's so pretty" stuff. He's not pretty enough to be called pretty. He's just not. He's not even as interesting looking as Methos or (and I cringe to say it) Josh Hartnett. Pretty men on Alias? He's so far below Michael Vartan's level of pretty-manness it's not even a contest They're not even in the same building. Micheal Vartan's up there with the above list of too-pretty-to-be-human. Sark looks like an everyday guy, decent-average-looking but, in his case, in a squirrely/pinched kind of way.

I think Sark as a character is interesting, and cool (in a Krychec-but-less-hot-way) from what little I've seen of his character (not a big watcher of Alias, sadly), but never once in seeing him on TV did I think "Wow he's so pretty." I think that about JM about 9.2/10 times that I see him on TV, and Taye Diggs and Jared Leto every time.

Gasp! Say it isn't so! All kidding aside, I find Sark to be more intriguing and interesting than the textbook definition of pretty. He has an unusual face and I like that. He's that guy in the corner who looks like he has a secret and you just wish you knew what it was. That's the allure for me.

On your definition of pretty men as including Ewan McGregor, Orlando Bloom, Aragorn, I totally agree. Some people are just universally pretty and some have more cult appeal.

Blasphemy!! ;-)

Only kidding. I think Sark is pretty, but not Spike pretty, not even close. Of course, in my heart, no one else besides Spike lives up to the standard of Spike-prettiness.

I find the character of Sark highly attractive-- not only because of his looks, but I really like his personality. But yeah, he's not so much a Spike Version 2.0 as he is a Spike-Lite on the Manly Prettiness Scale.

You know, I largely agree. Sark's intriguing enough, and sexy in that British Bad Boy kinda way, but he's not really pretty.

But then, I'm not all that drawn to Sark, certainly not in the way I was Spike or Mulder. I'll probably find he gets more attractive if I get more interested in him, cause that's what always happens with me.

I agree. I don't watch the show, so I can't say how his character comes off, but I've seen plenty of pictures, and I can't say I see the attractive at all. He's a bit too...blonde for me. And not in the cool, sexy Spike way.

Michael Vartan on the other hand. And your list! The only one I'd subtract is Brad Pitt, because apparently I am the only woman on earth completely oblivious to his charms.

It's ironic, because a few weeks back, I was discussing with one of my coworkers the three concepts of male attractiveness: there are pretty men, there are handsome men, and then there are beautiful men. JM/Spike is beautiful to me. Harrison Ford is handsome. Michael Vartan is pretty. Sark? He kinda falls in-between pretty and handsome for me. So I certainly agree in part with your opinion. :-)

I agree with everyone above--Sark isn't pretty. I think he's hotter than the sun, but it has nothing to do with prettiness. He's definitely attractive, but a lot of the attraction lies in his bearing, his attitude, etc. (Having seen DA in person, from afar, I think it holds true of the actor, in a different way.)

Vartan is much prettier, but I'd like to beat his character with a shovel every once in a while.

I don't know about pretty. I don't really know that is a compliment for me--I agree with you that Michael Vartan is "pretty" but he does absolutely nothing for me. Nada. Zilch. Snore. Whereas the second Sark comes on screen my heart rate goes up, my cheeks flush, a grin forces itself onto my face.

And now I'm too lazy to dive into what attracts me so I haven't added anything intelligent to this discussion. *backs out sheepishly*

I don't like him when he's scruffy. Which is probably why he does it. But clean-shaven, blond-short-haired, smiling shirtless Brad Pitt? Yumm.

That's sort of my point. He may be atteractive or sexy, but I've read in other people's journals where they call him pretty, and I don't think he is at all. Pretty. But that's not entirely the same as attractive.

Do you mind if I clog your LJ by simply exclaiming "WORD!" and pumping my fist in the air? Because I completely agree--I'm new to Alias as of this season, so I had incredible physical preconceptions regarding what Sark would look like. When I finally saw him on-screen, I was sure that he was someone else, a different character, and not the Sark that everyone was squeeing over.

By now, I've decided that Sark is more "magnetic" than "attractive", and that his je-ne-sais-quoi comes out of how his personality and how he somehow projects it out of himself than because of simple pretty-boy looks.

i find sark (david anders) pretty in that fresh, first-love, boy next door way. i find michael vartan handsome in a very grown up man sort of way. with that said, vartan and his character does absolutely nothing for me. sark blows my mind with his reticence, his wiliness, his overwhelming skills at what he does (namely uh, manipulating and/or killing them), his entire demeanor. sark is the guy that walks into a room and everyone shuts the hell up because they're either fascinated by him or scared to death of him. sark's attraction for me lies primarily in the fact that he is so skilled at what he does, he never reveals his motives, and he is highly unpredictable. vartan's character is a good guy and i do like him. but i find him too plodding and pedantic and banal to even approach the hotness that is sark.

sure. pretty was the word I was objecting to. I haven't watched enough of Alias to talk about attraction of characters, as I said.
