Well, to be honest, "spander" always sounded like some variety of fish to me, and "spillow" or "spwillow" always sounded like babytalk... Bangel makes me think of bagels (heehee), and Spuffy makes me think of spiffy-clean marshmellows (clean and puffy ones.) Spred is badly made peanutbutter (is gross when it gets in your hair) and Spawn... actually, I always thought Spawn was weirdly appropriate, what with the whole vampyre thing. Spaith sounds like either something that grows in clumps under your sink or some kind of gardening tool. Spangel sounds christmas-y, which is totally the wrong thing to bring to mind for Spike/Angel.
