When I am talking about the geograpical area, I say "Cuhribbean". When I am talking about the movie, I say "Caeribbean". I make this distinction because I am a poetry geek and "Caeribbean" flows better with "Pirates of the" because they're all trochees PIrates OF the CAERiBEan
Though you could definitely make a case of how "of the" are not really trochaic but are really pyrrhic. But that's my rationale. :)
The way I remember the proper way to say "Caribbean" when I'm NOT talking abou the movie is remembering a Kermit the Frog doll that my sister owns and loves, which sings "I'm a Caribbean amphibian! I like to hop in the tropical seeea! Caribbean amphibian! Won't you sing along with meeeee! Won't you sing along with meeeeeee, ribbit ribbit!"
