Last night I babysat The Terrors. The Terrors are my cousin's children.
Terror 1: Future mad scientist, name of Elizabeth, age of 5 nearly 6.
Terror 2: Future heartbreaker, name of Cameron, age of 2. Very very 2, if you know what I'm saying.
There is a Terror 3 on the way. Sadly, with my moving down South, I'm not going to be around much for the baby version of Terror 3. This is also a bummer because I just achieved status of "person I know and therefor will not cry and scream at" with Terror 2. When I move away I'm almost certain I'm going to suffer a Terror 2 status downgrade.
Oh well, Terror 1 is still my Little Bit and always will be. Because she's old enough now to remember and miss me.
So yesterday evening I did the babysitter thing, and I did the near impossible: found a project to keep them occupied for at least 45 minutes. Our project? Homemade lemonade. They have a lemon tree, so we had fun knocking 6 or 7 out of the tree, then washing and juicing them. Terror 1 was my taste-tester and decided sugar/water/juice ratio. So of course she declared it perfect when it was still strong enough to make an elephant's face fold in on itself. Terror 2 was delighted by the end result, and he went running off happily after getting his little cup filled with his share.
Projects, I think, are the key to solving boredom amongst very young children.
