Well, it's final.

When I redid my computer, I lost:

- all my documents (essays, fanfiction, school documents, everything)
- all my bookmarks (every fan page, every torrent page... I wanna cry)
- all my screencaps for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Cowboy Bebop, and Witch Hunter Robin
- all my downloaded programs.

Which consists of at least:

  • BulletProofFTP 1.10 + crack

  • RealPlayer Gold 8.0 + crack

  • Quicktime

  • Goldwave + crack (my favorite sound editor!)

  • WinAmp

  • Kazaa Lite

  • Windows MediaPlayer updates

  • PowerDVD

  • DivX codec pack

  • Matroska pack

  • .Ogg files pack

  • VobSub

  • VirtualDub

  • Spybot

  • AdAware

  • Semagic

  • Nero + crack

Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. I guess I have a lot of searching to do to get them back.

And I have to rebuild my links list from scratch, both fun links and school links. And I lost all my essays and term papers from the last two years in school. Many of those I *don't* have paper copies of anymore. Damn; I just don't understand why the disks I saved aren't reading anymore.

Gah. No fun. Nero I can get you -- I've got a ton of bandwidth on my Easynews account for the month (it turns over on the 17th), so no problem for me to download that. Just get me an address to send you the disk.

DivX codec -- try www.vcdhelp.com

If you could point me to it, I could probably download it myself. If not, I'd love the help. :)

THanks for the other link; I'll check it out.

www.easynews.com. Realize that they are a subscription service -- $10 for 30 days or 10 gigs, but they pull from all the news groups and generally have a 20-day retention.

It's where I go photoshop and dreamweaver -- and it's fast downloads.

Hm... I'll think about it. Thanks.

I feel your pain. It sucketh deeply. So sorry.

I'm plotting to make myself feel better by hassling Apple into actually replacing my computer, since just one of the two parts they need to replace costs more than a new iBook. If there's anything I can do to help you feel better, let me know.

Thanks. I don't know; if you have any of the programs listed that would be easier, but I'll eventually find them anyway so it's not a big deal. The real sad thing, my documents, can't really be fixed.

I don't, alas. Mom's computer has a pretty basic set-up, other than some business programs.

I hear ya about the writing. I keep remembering more fics that are lost to me.

I had two entire outlines that were scene-by-scene detailed for mutliple chapters: my Cowboy Bebop fic that I was putting off writing until I could watch the episodes again, and my Harry Potter version of Hamlet, that I was just putting off because I was lazy.

Both were really promising, but I just don't have the energy to redo it.

When my comp died, people suggested getting second opinions... if nothing else, they might be able to get some data from the disks.

I'm trying to think of many of the partially finished fics as karma that I've gotten rid of... though I don't think frying a computer was what they meant by "burning down the storehouses of your karma." I went and bought a couple notebooks and pens at the discount surplus store today, and I plan to write fic in them. I ought to do my epically late Spuffy ficathon story... I rather want to try to reconstruct scenes from the epic I lost.
