You know, Joss has said many many times that his shows suffer from a "credibility problem".
I think a huge honkin' part of the problem is the fans. The most vocal fans are often, unfortunately, not the most *intelligent* ones.
It's sad that the fans who the PTB and the media hear from most often, and have the most contact with, tend to be immature and illiterate. Check out the posting boards where Joss et al hang out. Count the number of spelling errors, people calling themselves Angelsbaaaaby and type that looks LiKe tHiS.
It's gotta be related. I have seen stuff like this article crop up time and time again with regards to BtVS and AtS. Even the writers blow off the fans - Noxon calling them "shippers" in a derogatory manner for example.
It's sad. But we're probably lucky we don't see *more* articles like this.
