So I put "Gackt" into Google to check out why this band seems so popular with some anime fans, and this is the first image that popped up on the image generator.

So... Gackt is like boyband meets soft-core porn?

Suddenly the reason of their popularity seems all too clear.


Man, though. The boy's got pretty eyes, sure, but that nude shot just look way too pedo for me. Like, "Dude, are you 18? Cause you don't look 18. You look 16. And that's just wrong."

Gackt is actually pretty good. I have two CDs of his music. A friend of mine burned copies for me a while back.

And, yeah, I've seen some pretty softcore porn J-rock pictures in my time. Not just of Gackt either.

Hee. I like Gackt. In all honesty when I first saw pictures of him I was sort of...not impressed. I mean...well...he's really, really pretty. Too pretty for me to really find attractive, in fact. Usually I look at pictures and think "Wow, he's pretty." as opposed to "Guh, he's hot." If that makes sense.

However, I love his voice and quite a bit of his music. I can upload some songs for you, if you like.

Pretty boys are extremely popular to many, espcially to asian girls.

I had sort of the same reaction. That and he just looks way too young. I mean, I've seen 16 year olds who look 20 and who I would drool over, but the ones who actually do look that young just make me go "Ugh." I don't even know how old he is, but he just looks too young. I like skinny guys but I don't like skinny boys. No matter how pretty they may be.

Well, it's J-Pop, so I guess it'd be trendy. He has a really beautiful track on one of the discs called "Blue". I can upload some, if you want.

That'd be cool. But to be honest I don't always download everything when you post like 15 songs at once. I usually only take a couple (unless it's a complete OST), because I already have way too much music to sort through and listen to for the first hearing that's waiting for me already.

Heh. I think he was actually born in the early to mid 1970's, so he's not as young as he looks. I think he wears a lot of make up in those photo shoots.

He was born in 1971, so he'll be 34 this year. He's just very pretty. Bit too much for me too. I think Takeshi Kaneshiro is sexier and he's two years younger than Gackt. Takuya Kimura though, is the hot guy in Japan. Kimura's been ranked as the most sexy looking male celebrity in Japan for around the past five years.

Hello, I just sort of surfed in here by way of a Princess Tutu discussion somewhere. Hope you don't mind!

Gackt is actually the name of the man himself; he calls his supporting musicians "Gackt job". Yeah, I know. Anyway, the naked pictures are from a commercial for some sort of skin care products. I remember seeing a very big ad in Shibuya a couple of years ago (all of the pictures in the link are that old, or older) With naked Gackt (but you could only see his upper body) and the text: "Gackt sexy".

(Oh, BTW, he's around 35 years old, actually. Though he himself claimed at one time that he was born in the 16th century...)

I kind of liked him in his old band, Malice Mizer (http://moonglow.nu/gardenia/images/band/malice23.jpg)(yes, that's him in the front). If you think he looks girly now...

(The leader, however, was Mana (http://scape.us/images/m10m/glb/glb-2-3.jpg) The rest of the band were so totally his bitches.)

Interesting photos. Male-to-female crossdressing is aparently more popular in Japan by rock bands. Bands here do it sometimes, but not all that often or for elaborate phot shoots.

I'm definitely a fellow PT fan. :) You'd have to go back some entries to find discussion on it, though, or check my LJ memories under "anime reviews"-- I reviewed every few episodes.

Well... they're not exactly cross dressers per se; they never try to pretend that they are women. (Well, rarely anyway, heh.) Mana once said that "If a woman can walk down the street in a short skirt and get attention, so can I". It's more for the effect, and has a lot to do with Japan's own theatrical heritage and glam rock, I believe.

I'm more of a Dir en grey fan, and they are a very different type of Visual Kei. Hey, they don't even call themselves Visual Kei anymore. They seem more inspired by horror nowadays.

I'll check you reviews out, I love those sorts of things! I'm just too lazy to do them myself, unfortunately.
