At least, that's how I remember GW.
May. 6th, 2005 12:25 amIn a discussion on fanon and female-character-hate in anime fandoms and ficdoms,
rianax mentioned Relena-hatred in Gundam Wing fandom, and how everyone called her a crazy stalker. I was always in the minority of that fandom as well because I loved Relena's character. I had this in part of my reply, reposting here because it amuses me:
And with Relena and Heero the stalking was kind of mutual, if I recall...
::Relena is doing her thing::
::Heero appears, waving a handgun::
Heero: I came here to kill you. But I'm not going to. But just know that I could. Kill you. If I wanted to. And don't let anyone tell you any different! And by the way, I'll be back tomorrow. To kill you! Or maybe not if I should decide not to in which case it will be my decision so don't read anything into it!
::Heero disappears, behind a curtain::
::Heero is doing his thing::
::Relena appears, waving a purse and pad of paper::
Relena: I thought you promised you were going to come by this week to kill me! Well, anyway, I'm here visiting you to warn you that I'm taking over the world. So ha. And by the way, are you seeing anyone? And, can I interview you and use your memoirs for political inspiration? Great! KTHNXBAI!
::Relena disappears, in her jet::

Date: 2005-05-06 07:47 am (UTC)I used to rabidly hate Relena, but I recently rewatched the series (over Christmas) and discovered... to my shock ... that I really couldn't hate her. I couldn't find one valid reason to dislike her, other than "augh, she did something stupidly". Which, hello? Fifteen-year-old in any sort of political power? On top of female hormones? Cheez.
I attribute my original dislike of the character to the fact that I was sixteen at the time, GW was my first "big" anime fandom, and the aforementioned female hormones. First exposure to bishounen, after all.
