Animal mask? The world of the Avatar's got ANBU now?
They're leaping through trees! With ninja fight music! ::is pleased but puzzled:: Well, that's just having weird, weird aftereffects on my brain. It's leaving me with images of a crossover where the world of Naruto and the world of the Avatar are on the same timeline, and one is the past or future of the other...
Maybe the Avatarverse is the past of Narutoverse, and "bending" is like the rudimentary beginnings of chakra control... ohmygod. Stop, brain, stop! Don't go there!

Zuko rescued him? I thought it was a third party, then I thought maybe Zuko had sent someone to steal him. Cause this guy was all ANBU ninja skilled and stuff. But then at the end, when the commander/admiral guy stopped and let them out the gate, I thought "Is that Zuko? No...couldn't be..." It seemed unreal; we've never seen him demonstrate super mad ninja skillz before. But then, it WAS him! And I just about died.
So did Ang, actually. His reaction was wonderful and so very much like I imagine for his character. Jumping back like he's been physically burned... getting ready to leave him for capture... but then having his inner moral self rear up and make him do the right thing... ::happysigh::
I love this show. At first I was curious and casually interested, then I really liked it, but sometime in the last 3 or 4 episodes it's become true fandom love.
The scene after Zuko wakes up was so wonderfully handled. Ang's being introspective, and trying to reach out (to this person he was so sure was an enemy but has now forced him to redefine that view) and find some common ground, if only to understand why Zuko did what he did... and in return Zuko fireblasted his little Avatar ass for daring to make presumptions about his royal headspace. Like, I'm not your friend, I don't want to be your friend, don't think this has anything to do with friendship, don't you dare presume to know anything about me because we are totally different.
And then the conversation at the end, which breaks my heart:
Sokka: How was your trip? Did you make any new friends?
Ang: No. I don't think I did.
GAH. ACK. MY HEART. ::gives Ang a thousand hugs:: ::gives Zuko a thousand hugs::
I know Sokka/Zuko seems to be the main slash pairing of choice for this fandom (at least the last time I looked at fanfic), but I think Zuko/Ang is more interesting, especially after this episode.
On the other hand, pairing a fifteen year old with a twelve year old is kinda disgusting.
God, for the first time, I *need* fanfic now. Angst fic. Hey... Ang angst= Angst! It's like a bad pun. :)

Nickelodian, you don't deserve this show. While I love you for making it, it's simply too good for you and I admit I'm terrified you'll just randomly cancel it one day like Fox does to its good shows.
I can't believe how dark this show is starting to get. The last two episodes... wow. I mean, it's not hardly as dark as something like Full Metal Alchemist, but for the audience it's aimed at? This show is dark.
What strikes me as darkest is constant acknowledgement of genocide. It's not just the backdrop of history, it's still there, still happening every time a fire nation person mocks Ang for being the last Airbender alive. Most cartoons won't touch topics like genocide.
This show is dark like Disney's Gargoyles could be dark. Gargoyles was dark and full of complicated characters and three-dimensional villains, and way too smart for your average cartoon-- which is why I adored it and would watch it in middle school. And it got cancelled way too soon. I don't want that to happen to Avatar.
Please, please let this show go on for at least three seasons! I love it more every time--- and I'm so delighted and surprised by this fact.
