Well, I finally got to watch a clean version of The Blue Spirit. Turns out there were several good scenes missing in the other version, including the funny bit with Momo bringing them all random junk.
Some other things I noticed or thought about again, a bit of theorizing about Zuko, the Firebenders, the Airbenders, Zuko's bad eye:
-The masked figure is never seen firebending, and through the entire event he never speaks. Smart.
-Aang goes back for him twice, once at the gates and then on the road.
-There were several examples in this fight of how Aang is resourceful and good at quick decisions.
-Zuko is resourceful and adaptable as well, and they fight together well.
-"My friends need to suck on those frogs!"
-Zuko is more muscular than I had noticed before.
-The archers have awesomely cool face-paint.
-Zuko's left eyeball doesn't move. I can't believe I never noticed this before. But I'm sure of it-- in this episode at least. It never moves to match his good eye, just stares straight ahead the whole time. I find that odd. I was under the impression that he could see out of his bad eye, at least somewhat. But if it doesn't move then could it also be completely blind? How can he properly aim his firebending if he has no depth perception? Or is able to see, but it simply paralyzed, like a person's arm or leg might get paralyzed from injury?
-It's confirmed yet again that the Fire Nation systemically "killed" all the Airbenders. I know that there's been references and allusions to genocide all throughout the show, and we've seen that the Southern Air Temple was destroyed by Fire Nation soldiers, but I don't remember if we've ever been told until now that they were "killed" as an act of genocide--- as opposed to them simply all "dying" in 100 years war. As far as I remember this is the first time it's been made clear that they were "killed", they didn't die in battle and they didn't die of sickness, starvation, or some other malady caused by the war. They didn't die in the war or because of the war, they were killed off deliberately. It's interesting-- so far the Fire Nation looks like it's just conquering the Earth Nation and Water Tribes... the conquered villages like Jet's still continue on, just under different rule. I wonder why they went out of their way to exterminate the Airbenders as a whole? Because the Avatar was from the Airbending people?
-Zuko threw at least 3 soldiers off very high walls. It didn't look like he directly stabbed anyone, but it's certainly possible the people who fell died, and if that's the case then it means he knowingly caused the death of Fire Nation subjects and his own future warriors, for the purposes of rescuing an enemy of the Fire Nation. If Zaoh recognized something about the masked figure as Zuko at the end there, that's very, very bad. Being responsible for the deaths of Fire Nation citizens in a raid on his own country's military outpost is a lot more treasonous than speaking out against someone, which is all it took to get Zuko exiled last time.
-Zuko doesn't seem to know what he's doing. At all. He moans about his throne and honor and country, and then he goes and does this. And afterward can't even stand to look at the symbol of his country. Out of frustration with where his father's rules have put him? Out of guilt for his recent botched theft that ended up becoming a rescue of his enemy? Kid's confused.
-Juding by his behavior at the end, Aang probably isn't going to tell Katara and Sokka about what happened, or if he does, then probably not the fact that Zuko rescued him. I bet Aang's seriously re-evaluating everything he knows about his situation with the Fire Nation right now, trying to make sense of this new and complicated information about Zuko. I hope it gives him a sense of urgency to complete his bending education faster, and to stop dawdling.
-How many ships does Zoah command? Admiral is a rank given to the commander of a fleet. I thought he just had one ship like Zuko.
-Zuko was right in saying that with resources Zoah can probably catch Aang easily. If he did it once he can do it again. Things are probably going to be speeding up, plot-wise.
-the music in this episode is my favorite. I love how haunting and eerie it is.
