Watched about 4 minutes of the Escaflowne movie dub on AS tonight.

It's odd. I forgot, somehow, that it would be the same actors as the dub cast for the tv series. I guess the movie is so divorced from the tv show in my mind that, for some reason, I unconsciously expected a totally new English voice cast for it.

Weird.

For the 4 minutes I rewatched, I still didn't like it. I wish AS could have the tv show instead.

I love the tv show, but had never seen the movie, so when my brother told me it was going to be on AS I was excited. I was very disappointed. I love the tv show so much, I really thought the movie would be good, but it wasn't. It just felt so rushed and not put together well.

Things I like about the Escaflowne Movie:

[1] OMG THE MUSIC - The music to the movie is just as good, if not excelling over that of the TV show. "Black Escaflowne", which sounds like Duel of the Fates Esca-style, is STILL my favorite Escaflowne track. Ever.

[2] The animation. Wow, is it pretty.

[3] The character designs. Well, this falls into a 'mostly liked'. I was definitely glad the ski-jump noses of death went away, but there was something about the new designs that made me twitch. (Although, I can't complain with Van-sama running around without a shirt ... or most of a shirt ... for the movie.)

Things I didn't Like:

[1] THE PLOT.

[2] THE PLOT. (Psychic battles? What is this, X? If you're going to do something that drastically different, oh, explain it a little? Maybe?)

[3] THE PLOT. *growls*

So, yeah. Wow, it's been a long time since I've watch the movie, I ought to pull out the DVD and rewatch it. Maybe later. *is watching the Mummy*.

The movie didn't have a love triangle and movie!Hitomi didn't have a spine. ARG! On the other hand it makes really good music videos and I also didn't mind Dilandou as a crazed physic lapdog or Folken as an evil villain.

Makes the entire movie the product of Hitomi's depressed imagination. Which makes more sense than anything else, really.

Souls of Rage and Sorrow, in case you haven't seen it. Very very very pretty.
