SHIT!

I MISSED IT!

TONIGHT WAS EPISODE 37 OF FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST IN DUB AND I MISSED IT!

I really can't afford to stay up till 3am to catch it again. Fuck.

Now it'll be days before I can see it. Fuck.

So much love. As far as amusing military stuff goes, I think the translation for this was handled a lot better than episode 13. That dub episode was alright but some of the jokes just weren't as funny in the dub as they were in the original Japanese. For episode 37, however, I snickered at every joke even though I'd already seen them a dozen times in Japanese.

Some of the dialogue was translated a little differently, but the differences were funny on their own and kept the general intent if not the exact language. My only sadness is that they didn't use the line "The springtime of my life!" for Havoc.

I especially liked Mustang and Feury's VAs in this. ...And Breda and Falman's. I loved them all. Oddly enough, Hawkeye's dream mini-monologue was actually even racier in English than in Japanese, which made that scene even funnier.

But the real props go to the translators and script writers. Two thumbs up: Episode 37 is FMA fandom's darling and those folks did it justice!

...But again I really did love Mustang and Feury.

Now that's over for the sub-to-dub discussion: time for plot squeeing!

In the purest sense of the definition, episode 37 is only the second and now the last filler in the series (after episode 10.) 85% of it is humor (the staff & the dog) or character development (Mustang & the Hughes family, Archer).

The other 15% is plot:
-Armstrong taking over Maes' role of inter-departmental spying for Mustang
-Scieszka getting closer to the truth
-Armstrong destroying evidence then lying about it to the Fuhrer
-Mustang crashing the mission party to Liore

Such is the beauty of FMA: even when they give you an episode devoted to comic relief and characterization, then add little splashes of plot advancement. No wasted space here.
