Veronica Mars tonight

timepiececlockThis episode's mystery was a little too pat for me (the short time-setting was a nice choice, though), but I take it all with a wink and a smile because it made possible the final snark exchange which was so very, very worth it.
...and not just because she's a reject too. I like that she's grown somewhat as a person. Losing Wallace has obviously shown her what real friends/partners are worth, and she's lost the prissy edge. But she still has the snarky tongue, and I do admire her ability to stick to her guns. She and Veronica do have a lot in common-- we saw that while she was going against Veronica with the fortuneteller/television/prom debacle, and we're seeing it again now.
Speaking of Wallace, good for him for not dunking her and for giving her a few moments reprieve. That was a kindness.
Moving on... Logan! My god, is that girl Veronica-two-years-younger or what?Still, she seems a nice girl, and maybe what Logan really needs at this point is a genuinely nice girl. He's had the vamp (Lilly) and he's had the wolf (Veronica), and both in their own ways have hurt him severely. Not that he didn't bring it about himself half the time-- because he certainly did-- but maybe if he dates a nice girl that for once doesn't have the claws available to rip his heart out, whose only worry is midterms and college applications and finding a summer job, then maybe the fates might cut the boy a break. It wouldn't last forever because he's not the type to want a princess for life, but I see no reason why he can't enjoy a happy, stress-free lovelife for a little while. Something that ends on a mutual breaking-up, where they still consider themselves as friends. Okay, now I'm characterizing the girl as something he needs to work through, which is hardly fair to her, but hell, she's not a main character. She's a guest character and therefore she fictionally exists for the main character to fictionally work through. After he's done with his princess phase and Veronica's done with her gangster phase they can have hot sex all over the place.
ETA: Okay, apparently I'm blind or something, and didn't recognize her dad in the car as the Fitzpatrick doctor. So that means Logan's getting near her with ulterior motives that aren't what a normal teenage boy's alterior motives would be. Hm. That would explain why he was all smilely. I thought he was starting out trying to be flirty to get her attention and had moved on to genuinely being charmed by her(that's the way most dates go, isn't?). Clearly, whether he actually likes her or not is a moot point right now, because she's his way into resolving the murder mystery.
Did you catch my transition there? That means I'm gonna talk about Weevil next. Weevil! I don't at all approve of his recruiting his six year old relative to steal, but I loved that end conversation.

"That kept you from turning me in."
"Love....of rollercoasters."
When I first started this show, I dug the Weevil/Veronica buddies-with-UST vibe. Then Logan/Veronica happened and I was caught up in the epicness of that, and my Weevil/Veronica-buddies-with-UST love was sublimated to a hope that they remain cheerful allies/friends forever, possibly with an occasional one night stand. But the OTP was Logan/Veronica, all the way.
It still is. But now I have to say that if there's going to be a gentleman for Veronica this season who isn't Duncan (thank god), I hope that it's Weevil. Cause I know, I know, she and Weevil would never be in it for the long haul. But it could be an awfully fun short haul! And then next season she could get back together with Logan again. --Damn, that makes her sound like a ping-pong ball. Okay, nevermind, FOURTH season she can get back together with Logan. Third season she can be Veronica without a plus one, just Veronica.
