Guy1: "James Fry, you slut."
Guy2: "You're a slut."
Guy1: "Yeah, I know."

I've got no idea who James Fry is, but google turns up a lot of entries for "James Frey" that would explain the bookstore setting. It was more the mutually casual/friendly exchange of "slut" that stuck out.

Frey is that dude who wrote A Million Little Pieces, claimed it was all fact, and it turns out the fucker fabricated a bunch of it. Since she rec'd the book to her Book Club and talked about how inspiring it was to her, Oprah was pissed. And when Oprah's pissed, prepare yourself for a late afternoon dressing down. Which he got, like three weeks ago.

Oh, that guy! Yeah, Oprah's scary. Scary and impressive. I wouln't want her mad at me. Especially if she really did feel touched by the book-- then it's not just scary powerful mad person, it's scary powerful mad fan. Being betrayed by what you fangirl... it hurts.

Is it pronounced "Fray"? Because they probably weren't talking about him then.

It's pronounced "Fry", like French fry.

I'd kinda wonder about a couple of college boys talking about A Million Little Pieces. Seems more like something Oprah would read and be pissed off about.

What was even more inexplicable was the context of the exchange: Guy1 was walking near the entrace of the store down the aisle, and randomly looked at Guy2 and spoke. He answered, Guy1 said "I know," and kept on walking. It was very much an "in-passing" exchange. Probably picking up on earlier conversations.

That or one of those conversations I have with my mom or roommate K sometimes, where I just randomly make a comment and she knows what I'm talking about without context or explanation.
