"I get to go to lots of overseas places, like Canada." - Britney Spears, Pop Singer
Oh god. That's just...sad. It's almost as bad as that Anna Nicole quote I posted a while back regarding suicide bombers. ("Doesn't that hurt?")
Regarding the learning stuff -- ah, AP English. That class, esp. junior year, was a ridiculous joke. My teacher was an airhead who should have been retired. She couldn't add nor average grades. I sat in the back, randomly piped up during discussions, and she would get so impressed by that that I could practically sleep throughout the rest of the period. Once again, ridiculous. I have found that the AP students don't necessarily tend to be more dedicated, just inherently smarter and/or their parents made them sign up for the class. But they don't really care as much as they could, so they Cliff Note their way through the class. (That is speaking of the majority, not all.)
I have had only a select few teachers who really stood out to me in their excellence, but those who did I sincerely remember. I think the best teachers are those who provide the information they are required to teach in an interesting, logical fashion. Integrating the right brain in as well, like arts and music and student interaction, tends to imprint the knowledge faster and easier. I also think that breaking the information down into simpler pieces, then building it all back up again to see the full picture makes education more easy for students to learn.

I wish you good luck in this quarter!
