Veronica Mars
Apr. 27th, 2006 02:27 amSkipping past the episode 2x20 stuff, which I can't give words to because it's all so OMGFANTASTIC and moving and crazy, I'd like to give a mini rant about watching the show.
Specifically, the fact that I can't get my roommates to do so.
It's like they've got an aversion to the very idea. Is it because it's on UPN? Because they might've read Nancy Drew books as a child? (hey, I did) I don't know what mental vision of the series they have in their head, but it must be bad. I know when I first watched the series it wasn't at all what I expected it would be. Frankly, there's way more sex, drugs, and murder in it than I expected. Do they expect it to be a show for little girls or something? Or do they just dislike the actress? I've tried asking, and no real answer.
It baffles me so much because they all loved BTVS. And almost anyone who liked Buffy can like Veronica Mars. Not because the two series are similar (they're not similar aside from the main character being young and blond), because the series are quite different in terms of themes and goals and characters. But there's something in the style of the show, the level of dialogue mixed with detailed characterization, and something in the way it resonates emotionally with the audience, that I think anyone who liked BTVS would like VM.
So why won't they even give it a chance?

Date: 2006-04-27 01:28 pm (UTC)Humans should act in a purely rational manner (i.e., watch a fantastic show like Veronica Mars) but they rarely actually do, choosing instead to be difficult and perverse about the media they dabble in at the suggestion of their friends. At least that's how it goes for me. I can recognize that something people are watching or reading is worth my getting into but for some unfounded reason I decide to avoid it. Though normally I get to it some time later and kick myself for being an idiot. People are freaks and sometimes they just won't fall in line with the obviously well-meaning and life-improving advice of others. Like watching Veronica Mars.
I'm also still trying to take in the last episode and I'm stuck at the lump in my throat and the way my heart is so sadhappybrokenvindicated.
