The Lakehouse

Apparently, dogs live outside of time and space. Which is okay.

The plotholes in the whole time travel issue could fill a barrel, but when you're watching they're pleasantly easy to overlook. The script is nice (borders on sacharine but never quite tips the scale) and very romantic. The leads are pleasant and likeable and have chemistry together. I also liked that this was not a romantic comedy. Just a straight-up romance, with no "annoying best friend" always hanging in the corner for comic relief.

You won't leave this film with your heart soaring like you'd just seen Moulin Rouge or Titanic, but you will leave with a sense of romance and mystery and a touch of the sadness that goes along with waiting and hoping. My friend cried-- she cries at romantic movies.

Is that the one with Sandra Bullock? I thought that looked like it would be fluffy fun.

I had so many problems with Titanic, there isn't enough space on the Internets for me to complain. What I liked about it? They did the most mind-blowing job in reconstructing the look of that ship. Being a buff, I was totally like this the first time I saw it: 0.0.

It is the one with Sandra Bullock. Since movies around her cost $9 WITH a student discount, I'd normally wait for the video and save my money for something with explosions and sci-fi (this video would be perfectly enjoyable on a tv as much as a big screen). But I felt like seeing a movie tonight, so I spent the money anyway even though it wasn't a spectacle film. It was fluffy fun... but it wasn't lighthearted. Waiting was a big theme in the film, and waiting can be hard, painful, and lonely. But the rewards were nicely delivered and it was emotionally satisfying. Also, I  Keanu Reeves. For all his mockability I still totally  him.

So I'd be paying money to see my life on the big screen?

It's a waiting together more than waiting alone thing. Also, do you have a magic mailbox or a dog that exists beyond time and space? Those help.

What I mean though, is that you don't need to see this on the big screen. If you want something romantic then go for it and I'm sure you'll like it, but if you're like me and you really want a lot of flare for your buck, this is safe for video renting too.
