Watching Edward Scissorhands for the first time tonight

"Well, a long time ago, an inventor lived in that mansion. He made many things, I suppose. He also created a man. He gave him inside, a heart, a brain, everything. Well, almost everything. You see, the inventor was very old. He died before he got to finish the man he invented. So the man was left by himself, incomplete and all alone."

"He didn't have a name?"

"Of course, he had a name. His name was Edward."


And just like that, I'm reminded of the interview I read that said Edward Elric of Fullmetal Alchemist was named after Edward Scissorhands. And I smile.

22 minutes in. The set design of this town is very interesting. Big, wide blocks of color.

Guess this isn't the best time for me to make my comment about Tim Burton. "He's the most overrated director ever." And the man made one of my all-time favorite flicks, Ed Wood.

I'm a big fan of some of his movies, and I kinda roll my eyes at others. But they always have a unique weirdness that's beautiful and twisted at the same time. I've never met a movie of his that I didn't like in some way (though I haven't seen them all), and I doubt I'll ever actively dislike him.

His movies are weird, but my kinda weird.
