On the drive home tonight the Gorillaz song "Clint Eastwood" was the first track to start in my CD player and, partially due to the fact that I'd just been discussing Naruto fic with [livejournal.com profile] akavertigo, it struck me that this song would make a weirdly perfect Hatake Kakashi fanvid. I've never once mentally tied this song to a fandom character-- probably because the principle "speaker" is made up of so many disparate and conflicting qualities. But hey, so is Kakashi's characterization. He matches the song pretty well: cynical, lazy beat, badass talk, bizarre cheerfulness, oddball, ironic mentor, strange lif philosophy.

A fanvid would be so cool. It'd be half-serious, and half total parody. That's pretty much Kakashi's characterization anyway... he's either scary and killing people or he's comic relief as the lazy eternal bachelor porn addict.

Every sprouting tree
Every child apiece
Every cloud you see
You see with your eyes
I see destruction and demise
Corruption in disguise
From this fuckin' enterprise
Now I'm sucking to your lies
Through Russ, though not his muscles but the percussion he provides
with me as a guide
But y'all can see me now cos you don't see with your eye
You perceive with your mind
That's the inner
So I'm gonna stick around with Russ and be a mentor
With a few rhymes so mother fuckers
Remember where the thought is
I brought all this
So you can survive when law is lawless
Feelings, sensations that you thought were dead
No squealing, remember
(that it's all in your head)

I wasn't going to up it because I assume everyone and their sibling has heard this song already. But if not, let me know.

They're playing video games of themselves, right?

The Clint Eastwood video WAS weird. Funny weird. Except it hit this weird uncomfortable squick of mine in the part where it had the blue monster apes dancing in a line to the song... I hate groups marching in time to creepy drums. Even if it's cartoony like this video was. It strikes some primal "run! danger!" mob-fearing feeling in me. Either I watched the Disney short film The Sorcerer's Apprentice too many times as a kid or I was lynched by a mob in a past life. Who knows.

Yeah, that's it.

The "Clint Eastwood" video was my very first exposure to them, period. I was watching VH1 at around 1 in the morning, saw this completely mind-boggling video with an equally mind-boggling song. I signed on to the computer, and asked my more music savvy friend if she had heard of Gorillaz. "Yeah, that's Damon Albarn's side project!" "Oh? What the hell was that 'Clint Eastwood' song about?" She ended up sending me a copy of the disc.
