Confession time
Jan. 16th, 2003 06:42 pmWell, time to face the music.
I've found a high-school-set AU Buffy fic that I like. One that I get that small thrill of fanfic excitement when I see an update on Crumbling Walls.
It's called "A Touch of Jealousy", and is by Echidna, and found at: http://www.angelfire.com/80s/echidna/index.htm
Echidna was already the author of fic that I enjoyed reading, including Twining Vines (WIP) and Grey Lines (completed). I was fairly skeptical when she started a H.S.-centric fantasy fic, but I started reading it, and I *liked* it. Really liked it. The plot is one I've seen to be typical in romantic comedy films, but I love how its being carried out, and I actually like the way Spike is being written. And I already know that Echidna does pretty good NC-17 fic, so that part (which it's slowly building to) should be good as well.
Anyway, I can't believe it, but I am here to rec a fantasy Spuffy fic. WIP. Most likely the only one I'll ever recommend with a wholely positive perspective. Eat it up, folks.

You know, i find myself strangely pulled in by these AU/fantasy fics. I mean, i'm actually reading a fic where Buffy and Spike are camp counselors. I mean, WTF?! Anyway, very glad that you are enjoying TOJ. It really is such a fun fic, isn't it? She has such a wonderful touch with dialogue and UST. I'm completely Echidna's pimp (not that she needs much of it) and get strangely..proud when others are enjoying her stories.

Then I just kinda got tired of it. A lot of these fics all have Buffy doing something stupid, breaking Spike's heart, and then angsting about it for days. Gets repetitive. How come Spike's never the jerk in these stories? He's done plenty of jerky things on BtVS, after all. No, but I think it's the audience that the author is writing for.

Yeah, I know! I loved the scene in Buffy's room in like chapter 12 or 23 or whatever, when they were hiding from her mom. And I loved the last one with them all hot'n'heavy on the desk and a dozen people seeing them. I'm very curious about how she's gonna write the eventual NC-17 part, and under what circumstances it will occur.
