Doctor Who : 3x08 -
Jul. 9th, 2007 09:53 pm3x08 and 3x09
Oohh, this is just like a 1912 version of that fanfic that
lordshiva wrote, Seven Minutes in Heaven where the Doctor was being held captive with his memory suppressed into a new life, and Rose... well Rose basically sexed him back to himself. It sounds bad when I type it like that, but the fic was very good.
This episode pair was pretty good too. I genuinely felt for the Doctor as John Smith, finally able to have a happy, easy life with small responsibilities and small dreams. It was a life he would never have wanted if he hadn't been "born" to it, or believed he was. It was very sad, for everyone involved. Martha impressed me yet again; she is as much a travelling equal to Rose, though in different ways, with different strengths. On the other hand, the women are remarkably similar, too-- friendly, vivacious, inquisitive, pretty, action-junkies, full of integrity, and bright. Martha's cleverness is more intellectually based where Rose's was intuition based, but both women are smart and both make great companions. It also looks like Martha, being a little older, is better able to handle knowing her infatuation is unrequited; Rose never had to really face that because largely it *was* returned.
I noticed the psychic boy was the same adorable kid from Love Actually; looks like he's sprouting very quickly. I almost hoped the Doctor would invite him to come along; I think he would have made an interesting companion. Maybe someone could fic it.
3x10 - Blink
Well, that was genuinely creepy. This is the second season where the tenth episode was about other characters talking about the Doctor. I'm not sure I like the pattern... I want as much of the Doctor as I can get, selfish me. All told, this was much more interesting than Love And Monsters. It was the first Doctor Who episode *ever* to actually creep me out. What a horrible concept.
In other news... tomorrow we leave Denver for New Orleans again, for 6 weeks. I'll have less computer time, less fandom time. But I should be able to finish watching this season tonight.

Date: 2007-07-10 04:01 am (UTC)I never read that particular fic but the two-parter was adapted from a Seventh Doctor novel of the same title, Human Nature. The guy who wrote it did the script for these episodes, Paul Cornell.
