Does anyone out there like Dawn/Xander? Because I've been thinking and--oh my god; I could almost want it.

In other Buffy news, I watched Potential. Downloaded it in 11 clips from www.buffyverse.info. First time I've spoiled myself and watched it on a Monday instead of Tuesday night, even though I hadn't read anything about it before watching.

I feel so dirty. And yet, it's the sexy kind of dirty-- like the thrill you get from snooping around other people's houses.

I liked this one--much better than Showtime or BotN. It was a good one.

Lesson the first: Buffy sucks as a counselor.
Lesson the second: Buffy is so in love.
Lesson the third: Everybody knows both of these things except Buffy.

On potentials:

Hah! I guessed it would be Amanda from when she first showed up. Then the Dawn thing threw me for a loop, cause I thought "Well, that's kinda lame," and then when they were together I thought it would be BOTH of them, which would be much cooler than just Dawn. Anyway, I liked how it played out. And I liked that they used the same actress for Amanda from--was it Lessons? Anyway, they were cool by following up with that previous conversation. Remember in that ep, the same girl, Amanda, went to talk to Buffy because she kept wanting to kick the crap out of this boy who was teasing her.

Anyway, I liked Buffy's babbling about Spike.

I like Rona, and her "That's hot." I liked the other girl (Vi?) and her saying "Careful Buffy-- just when you think its part of the lesson's--- he'll hurt your arm." I could sympathize, because I acutely remember my arm hurting a LOT after being picked by my aikido teacher to help demonstrate moves. My wrists would be red for like ten minutes.

I liked the "uh-huh" looks between the potentials Molly and Rona at the vampire's tomb when Buffy said "comfy". I also wondered about this part:

Molly: Where did you live
Spike: What you mean before? Crypt actually. But nicer.

Does that mean for certain that Spike's living with them now? And he's healed up nicely in a week. Or was it a month? The time-wonkiness still remains unexplained. And Hah! That was Spike/Buffy theme music right at the end; I'm getting to identify it well now.

The demon bar part was lame, but I loved Clem's trick to scare them, and Spike's chuckling in the background. Would have liked to have seen a reunion of some kind between Clem and Spike. Especially since we were cheated out of seeing the Scoobies' reaction to the soul; we were cheated out of a Giles/Buffy hug; we were cheated out of seeing Giles' reaction to the soul; we were cheated out of seeing Giles' reaction to the rescue & seeing Spike for the first time in a year, now knowing everything he's done & happened & how beat up he was; we were cheated out of the Potentials' and the Scooby Gang's reactions to seeing Spike post-rescue---- damn, I'm seriously feeling jipped on the emotional payoff, here.

Nevertheless, Xander's conversation with Dawn on being the normal step-child in a family of mystics was touching, and well done. Mild pay-off in that. And will anyone shoot me then if I say that I could almost like Xander/Dawn? ::hides behind a crypt for shelter from the slings & arrows:: She looked so mature in that conversation, and he was so cute and mature too.

I feel like I'm speaking sacrilege, because I really did like Xander/Anya. And I still like them. And I don't like Giles/Anya at all, but I could almost like Xander/Dawn.

The fighting was much better in this than last ep. Leagues better. Especially Dawn & Amanda. And the shot of the vamp on the ceiling was trippy.

All in all--- 4/5 chocolate naked Spikes. Decent good-quality Buffy fare.

Just out of curiosity, and I didn't notice this until halfway through the episode--- where was Chloe? Did she die since last week or what?

Loved your review, Rashaka. Now I'm very excited about seeing this episode.

You know, Dawn's 16 and Xander's 21. Not that squicky an age difference, really, especially considering how immature the Xan-man can be. Compared with Buffy/Angel or Buffy/Spike, those two are downright contemporaries.

Well, when you say it lke that, I actually want to scale back a bit. Maybe, say, Dawn/Xander in three years, when she's 19 and he's 24. Infinitely better on my conscience.

Compared with Buffy/Angel or Buffy/Spike, those two are downright contemporaries.

I was always squicked by Buffy/Angel, but by the time Buffy/Spike came around age was so not an issue. Age stops being an issue at 18 or 19-- and I know that's just one opinion, but i'm basing it off not only the law but my own reaction. I mean, I'm almost 19 and the first guy I kissed was 21 to my 18, and that still squicked me out a bit cause I was like "Nuh-uh. 21 is too old for me. I'm not mature enough for a 21 year old." I wanted another 18 or 19 year old. But really, the older you get the less it matters. And when Buffy's sleeping with Spike she was over 20+1/2, and had already been in two serious, sexual relationships with older guys. Riley was older than her, wasn't he? I thought by 2 or 3 years. Anyway, Buffy was also used to relating to older men (Giles, Merrick), and had a night-life that made her grow up fast. Faith was much the same way. Dawn is much younger at 16 than Buffy was, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Heck, Willow and Xander at 16 were more like Dawn is now than like Buffy was.

So, no. I'm backtracking. I want Dawn/Xander in season 10, not season 7. I want Dawn/Xander in a follow-up movie, or post-series books.

You'll like this episode though, I think. I like the newbie, Amanda, a lot. She's weird, and I like & empathize with odd people.
