Things I love about Emma:

-The way Hakim wanders around the Jones house, always under foot without actually doing anything. He's the epitome of a aimless dilettante, and heir of fortune with no real ambition, a prince who has nothing better to do with his time than tour London in a giant elephant and offer commentary about his friend's love life. I'm a bit of a Hakim/Vivi shipper, though Vivi would have to grow up a few more years. I can see it as a Gigi sort of thing. (I really need to rewatch that movie sometime.)

-The way Emma's mistress doesn't seem to care that Emma's social issues have been a consistent problem for her staff household operations or that the girl may leave her service at any moment, but seems instead to focus whimsically on the romanticism of the whole entanglement.

-That William and Vivi have the green eyes of their mother, and they're the impulsive ones, but the thoughtful, serious children have their stern father's blue eyes. The details are a wonder in this series.

-That the littlest Jones child still has to cry to remind everyone that he exists.

...::jumping topics::

-No Emma! You can't go on a date to town with Hans. He's a Heathcliffe type, you can tell by his character design! You'll end up dead and he'll end up insane, screaming and kicking at your grave. It can only end badly when a man is talk, dark haired, and has huge sideburns and a deep voice and lives in old England. Better off marrying William; that boy has the heart of a puppy and just as much love to give.

-Oh my god, William, stop letting other people tell you how to run your life! Of course Hans is trying to manipulate you into going away. You gotta think of why people say things sometimes, not just get distracted by what they say.

I know this is completely random as I don't think I've ever commented on your journal before--I'd friended you to keep up with your fanfiction--but I probably never would've heard about Victorian Romance Emma if not for you. I just started watching episodes tonight (I'm up to ep. 5), and I'm completely in love with it now! So I wanted to say THANK YOU for posting about it! ^_^

<-- immensely funny out of context

Nooo, Hans is squishy inside, really. ;_; Did he start talking about the clockmaking yet? Which wasn't in the manga, at any rate, but hey, minor character backstory is always a plus.

Anyway, I thought this paralleled William's rather sorry attempt to move on, and instantly realized it could only end badly. You have probably realized this too. And I'm fairly surprised that Hans is so forward here, to be honest; he always kept his distance in the manga, and so seemed less threatening. Although, yes, less important.

re: William and Hans smackdown

Oh, man, that made me so unhappy. I kept thinking Hans was bigger than that, and that William was bigger than that. Why must jealous men always be so undignified? And it's made even worse by Emma's left foot being much more dignified. So at this point, I was really preferring manga!Hans' hate-through-a-window sort of thing.

*Hakim/Monica ftw * Monica's just too cool for the Victorian era. No, really, though, her behavior is very out-of-place for a Victorian setting, so I always get reminded of Emma's real nature as an animanga, first and foremost, when she shows up. I enjoy the idea of her running off to Hakim's place and living it large over there, but with due respect to the historical detail, if she goes to India, she should stay in India. \o/
