Anime: "Monster" up to episode 40

timepiececlockBeen catching up on the series Monster this month. I'm up to episode 40. I've decided that I'm kind of a Nina/Tenma shipper. Loosely, but it's there. I'm not sure if I can imagine them in a relationship, but I can imagine them jumping each other after some terrible and stressful confrontation with Johan.
I still like Dieter, but I'm not sure what the point is of his presence. He hasn't done much in the last dozen episodes, and he usually only does two things: fill convenient plot gaps, and be Tenma's conscience when it comes to violence. I still like him, though.
I got quite frustrated in the library confrontation with Nina, Tenma, and Johan. I was like, "just kill the bastard already!" But I understand that the series is trying very hard to realistically show people using guns who aren't emotionally prepared to be killers. They're having a hard time doing it, though you'd think Nina would be able to get over it faster. Or maybe the show is just stalling.
I am very glad that some people finally believe Tenma and are working to help him; not only that, but they figured out who Johan was on their own, and realized that Tenma was innocent based on outside testimony and evidence, not his word alone.
I don't really get why the inspector refuses to even look at the evidence offered up by the others, because if he were really THAT good, you'd think his pride would demand that he learn everything he can, not be amateur about it and fixate on one person. I also don't believe the idea that he has never been wrong, because that's completely impossible when dealing with the kind of profession that law enforcement is. There are things that you ONLY learn through mistakes, and lack of information to get the right person is a constant problem. But assuming that he has never been wrong and that such rightness feuls his pride, I guess he's only human and thus stubborn. It's still frustrating to watch, though. At least in the last episode he's started to look at Johan instead of Tenma.
