Heroes - 2x07 and Robin Hood 1-4
Nov. 20th, 2007 11:08 pmCatching up on my TV now that I'm back home.
I think its pretty cool that Takeo Kensei is apparently living forever-- I admit I didn't see it coming that he would be "Adam". I wonder if he's the Petrelli's great(x10) grandfather or granduncle, given the similarity between his ability and Claire's. But as neat as that idea is, I hope he's not doing this because he still hates Hiro Nakamura. I mean, that would be pretty pathetic-- you are an indestructible human who has the benefit and experience of living for centuries, and you're STILL mad about some guy that stole your lover 4 centuries ago? Who would believe that? I would think that if wisdom and experience doesn't kill that old anger, then simple boredom would. It's not like Hiro killed his mother, and that's about the only thing I can think of that's worth all this conspiracy so many centuries later. Hopefully Adam's major goals are centered around his personal ideals and agendas, and not just around making Hiro suffer.
It sucks that the Irish girl got left in the future. How does that paradox work? If they stop the virus, then does she reappear back in Ireland, or does she cease to exist?
Robin Hood: 1x01-1x04
This is cute. I don't have much to say beyond that. It goes for a bit of drama and succeeds moderately at achieving it, but the show can't really reach any depth because it's too busy being likeable... not unlike Robin himself. Nevertheless, it IS likeable and I do like it.
I know I've got a season and a half to go, but I have a secret hope that if they ever do an episode about Robin attending jousts, that they will borrow a bit from the novel Ivanhoe, of which Robin Hood was a supporting character. I would particularly love to see Rebecca on screen. I can easily imagine it being made into a two-parter; the first with the jousting celebration and the highway kidnapping, and the second half with Robin leading the castle raid and the huge battle.
Somehow, though, while I've no doubt the jousting and disguises will come into play, Ivanhoe and Rebecca probably won't be in it.

Date: 2007-11-21 10:18 am (UTC)I've become completely enamored with the show that airs just before it on Monday to the point of being unable to miss it. Uh. Would you welcome an attempted pimping of a clever, sweet, high-concept action/adventure/romance vaguely scifi show?
Have you got the chance to see more Pushing Daisies eps? The show has been surprising and delighting me with its cleverness and consistent quality.

Date: 2007-11-21 07:16 pm (UTC)::raises eyebrows:: That was quite the title-avoidance dance.
Perhaps.
I've seen up to episode 6, which I think is current. I'm still enjoying it.

The title is a kind of important bit to mention, isn't it? Heh. I got a bit carried away with trying to sell it. It's "Chuck."

Cool. I look forward to catching up.

Date: 2007-11-23 10:09 pm (UTC)It is pretty campy. It's spy plots are all meant to be silly parodies of spy shows like 24, Alias, and the Bond movies. The two things that drew me in were the way that the writers take the ridiculous premise and actually make it plausible in an origins story later in the season, and the way that the relationships develop. The characters are where the writing is at its most fleshed out and moving.
P.S.
Date: 2007-11-22 07:53 am (UTC)There's another, tonally very different spy show called Burn Notice I'm catching up with the most awesomely competent and equally respected female cast member, though the main character is a guy. It blows me away how messed up and capable she gets to be.
If you are in a media-hungry mood and want to see either, lemme know!
Re: P.S.
Date: 2007-11-23 05:33 pm (UTC)I downloaded the first episode of Burn Notice, but only watched the first 20 minutes. It didn't grab me much.
