Being that I'm one of the few fans out there who HAVEN'T broken down and watched the two new spoiler episodes of Avatar floating through the internets, I'm forced to find other ways to occupy my time.

I got to thinking about ships and cahracters based on fanon or OC characters or random what-if AUs, particularly for shows I've been fans of for a long time, or were older fandoms. Ideas that I never wrote about, or only read random snippets for by other ficcers. Example...

Inu Yasha: Inu Yasha and Kagome have a daughter, and their daughter grows up to marry Shippou. SHUT UP YOU KNOW ITS TRUE. SHE DECIDED IT WHEN SHE WAS FIVE.

Avatar TLA: Jet is the bastard war-rape son of Commander Zhoa, who probably sent the order for his village to burn. Their sociopathies have disturbing similarities. YES.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Marta and Greed were totally sleeping together. And Greed was once Dante's husband, whom she killed because she couldn't control him. Also, I am one of the maybe 11 people on the internet who ship Noa/Ed.

Doctor Who: Don Cheadle should be the 11th Doctor. IS THIS NOT BRILLIANT. Also, Rose meets Nine in her AU, while carrying 10's secret child. We all know that's what that last conversation on the beach was about.

Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel: all camera crews + me = 4 eva big love

Stephen King's The Dark Tower hypothetical future movie: Jake Gyllenhaal in 15-18 years, or Christian Bale in five.

Princess Tutu: Drosselemeyer is the Wizard of Oz, and one windy day Fakir too will know how it feels to lose a heart.
((IF MY F-LIST LOVES ME, SOMEONE WILL DRABBLE SERIES THIS. memlu? akavertigo? octopedingenue? flutingfrenzy? anyone?))

YES to your Avatar idea, and the Who and Tutu ones have me quite intriged.

I think only one more episode is technically in leaked capacity, though one more apparently will be released quite soon.

Tutu and Oz are like soulmate shows. Would you write me a drabblefic? Pretty-please? If you find it quite intriguing.

I've heard up to 3x11. I think 3x10 airs this week, which is good because I need my ATLA. How's your job? Still working for the magazine?

We need a Who of a different color, pardon the Oz reference. I don't know how keen they are on American actors (I imagine not very), but I saw Ocean's 11 so I know he can fake the accent.

I heard 3x11, which now makes too as I now remember that I've actually seen 9 already... it was the filler dream episode that I keep forgetting existed.

I'd drabble Tutu but not if there are midgets involved. Good lord, how I hate/fear that movie...

There don't have to be midgets. What you see up there is as far as my brain got in contemplation. I swear as a girl scout.

I'm just totally and suddenly enamored with the idea that the worlds are very similar, with fantastical fairy-tale style elements, music and color, talking sentient animals, and abundant metaphors. And the whole wizard thing, and one of the characters losing a heart... and they're both about a story, only Dorothy dreamed herself into that one while Fakir and Tutu and Mytho were born from the other.

It doesn't help that I've been thinking of finally finishing Wicked now that I'm home from saving the world.

Oh, it's got fantastic crossover/fusion potential; no argument.

I just can't stand the bloody thing. I grew up with the book and all its lurid sequel-siblings, but for some murky reason every time I come near the original (a.k.a. English) version or, godshelpme, the movie I get so irritated my teeth vibrate. Luckily, the allergy tolerated Wicked even though the book failed to rock me. Love the tunes, though. Oh, Idina, you siren, you...

Why don't you try your paw at it? Do it as a one sentence set or something; those are easy to do in pieces.

good god woman, can't I foist my ideas onto others without harassment? Besides, I've never even read the original book. I've just seen the movie and listened to about half of Wicked on audiobook. Clearly you are more experienced! Plus I've updated Culture Clash a couple of times and I haven't gotten to read new treasures from you in AGES. Much less Tutu.

November is not my shiny month. >_> Thus the dead silence.

Pfft, you hardly need to read the book to do the fic—especially where Tutu is concerned and artistic license rules with wild abandon. Plus, you know that whatever somebody else writes, no matter how fantabulous, will have you thinking “Oh, yeah, awesome, but I wonder why s/he didn’t…” it’s the writer’s curse; we are jealous breed of maniac. Possessive, too. So you might as well spare your therapist the buzzing and pick up the pen and skip down that merry yellow brick road, hi ho hi ho.

Seriously: allergies. Eye twitching. A mild, yet persistent, compulsion to bat things with a frying pan at the very mention of Kansas or rainbows.

all that and some cranberries

Well, it's true that in writing I am often jealous, maniacal, and possessive. I mean honestly, who isn't? It just comes with the hobby. Luckily so far I've been able to dodge the alcoholism, probably because I'm not a professional or particularly prolific.

All that aside, though...

Plus, you know that whatever somebody else writes, no matter how fantabulous, will have you thinking “Oh, yeah, awesome, but I wonder why s/he didn’t…”

Point of fact, I *won't* feel that way. See, as much as I am jealous, critical, and possessive, I'm not just a writer, I'm a fanfiction writer, and that means I participate the in collective-squee + laziness social equation. If I get wind of a neat idea, and I know there's brilliant writers out there who are better suited to it than myself (and also people whose work I love to read), I'm happy to offer it up for collective fandom to squee over and run with. FULL TILT.

In this case, my motive is in pursuit of the hypothetical fic itself, not my own writing experience.

SO PLEASE WRITE SOME FOR ME PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

ok, to break it down, here's a deal

I know November's your shit-down month, and here I'm asking you to think about flying monkeys that you despise, but all the same...

In the spirit of thanksgiving and thankfulness, I'd be super thankful if you wrote a few lines, maybe a drabble...

... and then I'd write a few lines, maybe a drabble.

You could help me out! And I promise I won't bail on you ::shoves aside the ghosts of LJ past who want to talk about prize- and gift-fics not finished yet even two years after promising:: I'm good for one drabble, if you get me started. You could be my fic fluffer, if you excuse the terrible metaphor I just typed. Really, I'm only being this lewd because I  you. What say?

Oddly enough, since engaging in this conversation I've turned curious about watching SciFi channel's Tin Man. It looks fun. Then again, SciFi does have a well established record of doing bad things to a good idea. I remember Earthsea, you bastards!!!

Mind you, this curiosity in no way sways me to write about Oz. Or to feed the round robin pecking your brain.

But.

I do sort of owe you for the whole Tutu brainwashing introduction. Especially since you valiantly continued to persist even after being chased around the backyard with a flaming broom. So. I will try to write something involving Tutu and the notions of Oz. But the following will apply:

1) I bear no responsibility for the idea.
2) Emphasis on “notion”. Don’t expect a seamless fusion.
3) You're stuck with whatever start I write. For or much much worse.

In/out?

I saw the first half of Tin Man. No so much with the love, more with the puzzlement. Thankfully it's not Earthsea, though. Just odd. A lot like the 10th Kingdom, but crammed into two hours instead of 10 lushly developed hours.

I do sort of owe you for the whole Tutu brainwashing introduction.

Babe. That was a LOT of work badgering you.

1. I completely accept all responsibility for the terrors I have wrought and the seeds I have sewn.
2. I like notions instead of full fusions too! Mostly because I like the world of Oz better than the characters, and the characters are more like paper cut-outs anyway.
3. I will abide by whatever you start and work with it. I'll fanfic your fanfic.

In!

You do realize that the Oz I'm building in my head will in no way resemble the original?

Also, I said "try".
