Heat and Hogwarts
Jun. 25th, 2003 10:01 pmIt was 105*F today. I stayed inside.
We watched the last 15 minutes or so of Harry Potter 1 on cable while we were eating dinner. I only half-paid attention. But I was watching while they did the award presentation at the end.
You know what? Dumbledor's a jerk.
I mean, yeah he's the "wise old mentor of All That's Good and Pure" and all that, but honestly, that whole "last minutes points" thing was downright petty.
He tells the Slytherin students they've won, basically gives them their trophy then says:
"PSCYHE! Betchya thought you won, huh? Just kidding, you didn't."
He should have just given the points out and then announced the winners.
I know it's a cheap writing trick to build up suspense, but it's a mean thing to do to a group of eleven year olds. If Dumbledore's years of "fair and wise ruling as headmaster" watching children bully each other hadn't made him sensitive to that sort of thing, didn't at least his parents teach him to behave better?
