How do people without paid journals post icons? Seriously. I've had a paid journal for 2 years until last month, so I can't use my scrapbook anymore. I made some spiffy new icons, but don't have room to put them in my own icon queue.

Is there a website people use to link to gif and jpeg files? Is there a common one?


Anyway, check out the icon. This poem rocks. Of course, it's not a shippy poem at ALL yet I put it with a mildly shippy icon... oh well, it works. I do think it fits in terms of mood (poem and the episode), and the caption "you will go faltering after that bright imperious line" is a prophecy for Zuko's life, and description of his personality, as sure as anything Aunt Wu might say.

I guess this is sort of a spoilery icon... but there are other spoilery icons out there, and mine doesn't really give anything away, and if you haven't seen the episode by now then you're not a respectable Avatar fan anyway.

Anyway, look below this to the lyrics I put at the bottom of the thread. Grab the song! It's one of my new current addictions. (along with "Sons and Daughters" and "Engine Driver" the former of which also makes me think of ATLA and the latter of which makes me think of Tutu.) WHy am I suddenly enamored of the Decemberists? And why can't I find any fanvids with their music, anime or otherwise?

But.. but... I'm a NEW Avatar fan who doesn't have cable, doesn't have high-speed internet, and doesn't like to watch things online anyway! I'm more than halfway through the first season... does that win me any points? *sniffle*

(For the record I don't feel spoiled by the icon at all, at least not any more than I generally had been by friends lists the past two years. Just begging for "respectable fan" mercy. Or really to be more accurate just finding a way to mention that I'm FINALLY watching the show. ^_~)

The icon doesn't tell you anything except that a) they are in the same room at some point over three seasons, and b) a bit of my personal interpretation of Zuko's many trust issues / neverending stumblings at life via poetry quotes.

You are respectable, I take it back! AND YAY YOU ARE WATCHING THE SHOW FINALLY. It's bizarre how this series has taken over my fandom habits for the last two years. It's... so incredibly awesome. I continually ask myself what gods the Nickelodeon network staff prayed to in order to be gifted with such a gem on their channel.

Also? Avatar is subversive. Watch for the signs. I mean... it has friggin' child abuse criticism in it, albeit far removed and understated, which is a topic you don't see on children's tv shows often, despite the commonality of it in real life.

I'm glad you like it! This other one uses the complete from which my lemon fic takes its title; the poem is "what if a much of a which of a wind" by e e cummings. you should google it; it's so great. One of my favorites (I love cummings!)

I honestly can't decide which one I like better-- both captions are great, and both styles of color-editing look good too.

I can't believe you're staying unspoiled for potentially a MONTH! Oh my god, if only you see this next episode... seriously, it'll give you enough ideas to last six months. I keep wanting to write fic for it but I'm not sure how to start. Episode 12 does some really interesting things: it establishes how the characters interact and how much they've changed from the last time Zuko and the gang interacted. I don't want to get more spoilery than that for your sake, but... this is what we really needed, in fic terms: a sampling of how we should write Zuko + Gaang-- a sample pattern, of sorts. Good? Bad? Funny? Painful? Difficult to watch? Enthralling? In many ways its like a trainwreck. An awesome trainwreck.

It also completely changed my perception of writing Zuko POV and Zuko dialogue in this context, which is probably why I haven't even drabbled it yet. My predictions of Zuko's behavior in this context were spot-on in some ways, and radically off in others. It's kind of thrown me for a loop. A good loop.

Anyway... I respect the no spoiler thing but OMG, the episode is out and you really should indulge, if its not going to air until the new year. It's not like reading a summary of the episode, you can just get it.

I know, I know, I know...but I like watching it on TV. it's not quite as much fun now that everyone watches it beforehand and has already discussed it to death by the time I see it, but it's so big and pretty on TV!

heck, I still haven't drabbled post-DOBS. I'm kinda still living off the euphoria of my last one-shot (because I haven't felt like I've nailed something so well in a while), although I do have an idea for a (probably now-jossed, thanks to 3x12, but I wrote the last one after DOBS had already come out knowing it'd be AU...*will probably write this one sometime soon*

I like this because I think "mountains" fits Katara best: large as life, strong, eternal, intimidating, the stuff of heroes and legends, supportive, caretaking, and at the same time unforgiving.

Whereas "trees" fits Zuko... tall and strong but blown by the wind and damaged by passersby carving their names into the bark, battered by the elements and changing from season to season, but with deep roots like Iroh and Ursa, the ultimate survivor.

OH I HAVE TO TELL SOMEONE: this is totally my AU Zutara song of the moment. Not anyone's particular AU, just a general alternate Zutara idea. I imagine it as Katara being the singer/speaker, even though it's really a guy talking.

I had this idea of making a screencaps post to go along with the lyrics, but I am too lazy. I mapped it though:

I really want to make a Zuko/Iroh AMV to "The General" by Dispatch (which I unfortunately do not own to send to you), because in part it seems Iroh-ish, except that people seem to forget that while Iroh might've been nicer than Ozai, it took Lu Ten's death to get his head out of the Fire-Nation-Superiority clouds, and I could also see it being an AU Zuko if he hadn't defected and if Aang were to fail:

I like it. I wish I could listen to it. Hm... very much fits pre-series Iroh, I think.

Since DOBS, and Iroh's conversations with the female guard in prison, I've decided that I'm almost certain now that Iroh will be Fire Lord, not Zuko. Zuko is too young, in mind as well as body. He's taken until halfway through the last season to get his head in the right place, and frankly isn't prepared emotionally or intellectually to govern anyone right now. Iroh, though... we've seen he still has loyal FN followers, he's once again strong and intimidating (not too old after all... perhaps exile aged him unfairly for a time), and he's got many hidden political connections, including the White Lotus. His claim also supersedes Zuko or Azula's claim, should Ozai die. He's ready: he has the strength, the will, and the vision to lead the FN on the recovery path. I really think the series will end with him on the throne and Zuko finally free to chill out for a while. I am also pretty sure Iroh's not going to die. And I think if he doesn't die, then he'll be Fire Lord. I can't see him giving Zuko the throne any time soon, no matter how much he loves the boy. He of all people would know that Zuko still has to grow.
