Read this book. I mean it.
Dec. 23rd, 2007 02:19 amNo sooner do I finish Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrell than I find out that New Line Cinema apparently has the rights to the movie, and it's being written!
Ack! No! I don't want a movie! I want.. I want a 12 episode miniseries on Showtime! That's what I want!

Date: 2007-12-23 07:30 pm (UTC)A) It's a fantastic book. It's depth and detail is it's main appeal. Cut it down to it's skeleton, as the cinema must, it because a pointless story about two men . . . doing things. With a fairy or two thrown in.
B) Must we make a movie about every book that becomes mildly popular?
C) It's been a year or two since I finished the book. However, my favorite part, I distinctly remember, was when Strange goes insane. I was just agog at the writing.
D) Footnotes rock!*
*It's true.

Date: 2007-12-23 11:36 pm (UTC)I just wanted to say OH YOU PUT YOUR FINGER ON IT. They need to stop making movies and start making high-quality miniseries about these books instead.
On a related I-wish-they'd-stop-doing-that note, why does everyone write Pride and Prejudice retellings? Just once, I'd like to see something from Col. Brandon's point of view. Or better yet, one of the bad guys from Mansfield Park's POV. Honestly, people. Pride and Prejudice is great, but it's not the only book she wrote. *eyeroll*
