timepiececlock: (Dragon lives forever-- not so little gir)

I like the analogy of chess in this episode. Sarah = Queen, John = King, Cameron = Knight. This works very well with the structure of the Terminator storyline, since Sarah Connor is the most powerful and adaptable character, whose central mission is to protect the king (John), who in this story is important but relatively powerless.

As episodes go, this was one of my favorites to date; the story covered a lot of ground and a lot of different angles of advancing plotline while still managing to drive forward at a lively pace. That's something I appreciate: dropping a lot of exposition without being boring. The show so far has avoided the terminator-of-the-week strategy, which is a good thing and sensible within the worldbuilding that's going on (i.e. the existence of other rebels and machines sent through time on missions that have nothing to do with the Connors). I like the momentum here, and I hope they can keep it up.

I wonder how the film that we'll see in the next couple years will mesh with the tv show? So far the show is acting on the premise that movie T3 doesn't exist (wise decision), and given that it's set in the past/current timeline they could easily move forward without having to worry about the fourth movie, since the 4th movie is supposed set during the future war. (I'm very excited about Christian Bale, btw. He doesn't do crappy movies. Even the Reign of Fire was significantly bettered by his presence and was elevated to solid "mediocre" status.) On the other hand, it would be pretty cool if they could tie the next movie into the tv show, or vice versa. It would appeal to my geekitude.

I heard Joss Whedon's new show The Dollhouse has been picked up for 7 episodes by Fox. I am HIGHLY excited about this, have been ever since I heard he was planning a new series, since I've been asking the universe for him to come back to tv for a couple years now. I can't say that the premise sounds particularly thrilling-- actually it sounds kinda far-out compared to his other two shows. But he's Joss and I trust him to entertain me, without a doubt. He's one of those producers that I will give any show of his a try, on basic principle and a good prior tv record of creating shows that pull at my heartstrings and thrill my gut. I like Eliza Dushku (Faith) and I think she can carry her own show if she's got good material to work with, which she hasn't lately. So... ::shakes magic eight ball:: ALL SIGNS POINT TO YES.
