...unfortunately I'm a member of [livejournal.com profile] capslock_atla, too. Bummer. And [livejournal.com profile] capslock_zutara [read that response: how did this not happen to US? we must be slipping]. And [livejournal.com profile] capslock_naruto... when it comes to fandom crazy I have no high ground whatsoever. ::hugs the capslock communities::

I would love to write this Avatar/RealPerson kerfluffle up for Fandom Wank, but... I don't have the heart. The guy isn't even a writer for the show, he's a martial arts consultant, and picking on him even more would seem... I dunno...unfair? Like, I don't mind running writers and tv producers through the fandom ridicule machine, but doing it to a kung-fu guy who innocently wanders onto the internet to browse for the show he's consulting for...

Anyway, I am a coward and can't do it. But I don't mind letting you guys know, in case any of you want to report it.

I hope that's a recommendation to read the capslock_zutara response for good reasons, and not for bad ones... *GUILTY FAIS*

I guess it would depend on the reader's feelings about capslock communities. I meant it in a positive, amused way because I *like* the CRAZY OBNOXIOUS attitudes of capslock comms, but the recommendation is deliberately open-ended because I know that it appeals to a niche fanbase. Also, there was slight mockage, because my loyalty fandom communities in no way prohibits me mocking them/us, especially since I belong to so many and especially Avatar fandom, which in the last 2 years has really flourished from a "young" fandom into an established (and thus emminently mockable) machine. So... yes to both answers? :D

Don't know if you know, but this isn't the first time he's gone head-to-head with Avatar fandom. He has a profile over at Distant Horizons and about a year or so ago, before his identity was verified, he got into a brush up with some fans over there. He got quite angry, and justified or not, I felt he may have taken the fandom too seriously then, too.

Really? Well, he should know better than. I bet that after this, he will. I think that this must mean nobody in the studio warned him about interacting with fans on messageboards, or if they did he didn't listen. I don't know if they have any kind of formal policy, but tv/film media production staff and companies are shoulder-deep in the relationship between fans, creators, and a show. They know how to use that relationship to make money in marketing and most have learned when to ignore it. If no one told him in the staff room, someone should have mentioned it over the water cooler. Once you get interviewed or filmed or attend conventions your face gets seen and you become more than a random name in the credits. And from that moment forward... FANDOM SLEEPS UNDER YOUR BED AT NIGHT, LIKE A LAVA MONSTER.

Here's hoping he doesn't get too wound up about it.
