For reasons unknown and inexplicable even to myself, I suddenly want to rewatch episodes of Duck Tales and Darkwing Duck. Like, right now. At 11:08pm on a random Tuesday.

DON'T ASK ME WHY FOR I HAVE NO COOL ANSWER

And Gargoyles! In early middle school we used to watch Gargoyles at 3pm. And it was good. And Rashaka was happy.

Seriously, I miss my kids tv lineups.

I always wanted to watch Gargoyles but it either came on before I got home or when I stopped watching cartoons after school. When I found out Jonathan Frakes was one of the main voices, back when I was up to my chin in Star Trek:TNG, I was very interested in watching it. Before Frakes seemed like a giant tool, at least to me.

WHY GARGOYLES IS SO GREAT

:snert: He played a giant tool on the show. A super-rich jerk who is a villain through selfishness than through any real evil. That's what I loved about Gargoyles... in two seasons it was full of villains who were mostly only villains because they wanted something, or because of personal vendettas, not because of inherent evilness. Xanatos (Frakes's character) wanted to control the gargoyle clan (like minions or pets) and control the magical stuff that was now happening all around him, and he made lots of bad decisions and was a fan of using people to get what he wanted. But he never tried to blow up the planet or anything. Likewise another villain, the gargoyle Demona, had a huge vengeance crusade against the humans, but kept trying to recruit the other gargoyles to her side... except for the main character Goliath who was her ex-mate-for-life (separated by a thousand years curse don't ask) and who she alternately wants to murder or seduce, depends on the day. (I *love* Demona in all her crazy glorious ways)

Aahh... I loved that show. I should see about downloading it sometime... it was only two seasons. And it was full of british Faerie mythology and characters based on Shakespeare. Macbeth is an actual character in the series-- that's right, ripped right out of Shakespearean history. So are numerous other literary or mythological characters. It's a hoot. It's the perfect kids cartoon for future history or literature majors who also grew up on shows like Highlander and the X Files.

Also, the main human character is a female Native American cop in New York. What *other* cartoon has someone like that as its protagonist? I can't think of one.

oh yeah, and...

If you're not stuffy about watching kids cartoons, then you should rent/download it. I really mean that; it was the first "serious" cartoon I ever saw (I never was into Batman), and in retrospect it's no wonder that a few years later I was watching anime; the darker storylines and complex character motivations that you find in anime shows were also in Gargoyles. If you like Avatar: The Last Airbender (omg, get on that bandwagon pronto) then Gargoyles is about the same maturity level, maybe a little more sophisticated in its subject matter but a little less epic in execution.
