timepiececlock: (Origin of Love)

"You gave me a reason to come back. Could I love that much, and not forgive?" Aaahhh... good shippy stuff. These two have some great romantic speechifying, and Sheridan in particular since he's been a speech-maker from day 1.

Regarding the Centauri subplot: Vir killed the Centauri Emperor? Vir? I had forgotten that completely. I remembered the scene of G'Kar in chains and breaking free, but I'd completely forgotten the circumstances or the fact that Vir was the one who assassinated the Emperor. Hah! Lando's easily-agitated assistant has an exciting destiny indeed. To serve first an evil Emperor, then an Emperor imprisoned, and eventually to be Emperor himself.

Also, his actor lost considerable weight between season 3 and 4. I'm sure it was for personal reasons, but I think the look suits the character. He looks older, more stressed out... like some of the softness has bled away from his body as well as from his spirit. Vir of season 1 or 2 would never have helped in a plot like this, and certainly never would have finished the deed. Sending his character to Minbar was good; he got that independence and development that makes his actions in season 4 feel more in-character and believable.

I didn't comment on the last few episodes, but I have to say that I enjoyed Sheridan's revival. Sucks that it comes with a cut-off date, but hell, everyone dies. It's one gift--or punishment--that we are all promised. And living to your 60s is better than what lots of other people get. Sheridan's dramatic appearance was timely and entertaining; there was a very cosmic feel to the efficacy of his arriving at just that moment, of course. I'm still not sure what I think about Lorien's character (there's another LOTR name), but he's filling some plot holes by providing much-needed support at the right moment. I'm not sure how Sheridan's epiphany on Z'ha'Dum allowed Lorien to leave as well, but maybe Lorien was never trapped. I did like their final exchange by the fire, and the verbal & physical parallels of falling/being caught by Delenn, Kosh, Lorien, god, or oneself.

Kosh's final act was pretty cool... not as good as his final dream-speech, but still good tv. I wonder if Sheridan will be less stiff-upper-lip now that Kosh is fully out of him? I wonder if it was Kosh's presence that allowed Sheridan to be "caught" by Lorien? Makes sense.

Sucks about Garibaldi coming back not quite right. I wonder if he has the neck-spider yet, or did he get a personality reprint? That was a psi-cop leaning over his table, I believe. I guess I'll see soon enough. I always thought Garibaldi got the short stick in the end of this show. If I remember, things don't go well for him. Sad, considering he was such a loyal fighter and believed in his work.

The Alfred Tennyson poem quote at the end of 4x05 is one of my favorites. Hell, it's probably one of everyone's favorites, because it really is quite stirring.

(I had to look it up)

apotheosis:
1. the elevation or exaltation of a person to the rank of a god; deification.
2. the ideal example; epitome; quintessence: This poem is the apotheosis of lyric expression.
3. Elevation to a preeminent or transcendent position; glorification.

Season 4 doesn't really let up on the break-neck pacing, does it?
Sheridan's return - wonderful. I've watched that scene so many times. And Lennier's face... Trouble with a capital 'T', right there.

The growth of Vir Cotto - brilliantly done, he's such a fascinating character to watch. Yeah, the weight loss makes him look a lot older but it fits with Vir becoming more of his own man, uh, Centauri, in this season.

Garibaldi - he ended okay, I thought, in the end?

Did he? Shows what I remember. :D I'll see by the end of the month.

I am glad that Sheridan returned with a haircut, when he returned! I thought that long hair made him look older and heavier, though he's always been a big guy with wide shoulders. I like the shorter, cleaner look that he has with his revival. That's how you know you've hitched with a real frood of an omniscient being: he comes prepared with barber facilities just so you can make the *right* dramatic reappearance from Terrible Death scene.

LOL Indeed!

Yup, I always loved the fact that not only did Lorien manage to bring Sheridan beck to life, he also gave him a fetching new haircut. I too love him with shorter hair. Admittedly, I would probably still love him if he had hair down to his ankles....
Big men with wide shoulders - don't you just love 'em?

I hope you don't mind my friending you - I suppose I should have asked, really. I just got a bit excited seeing you at the J/D site after our convo at ff.net...

When I first watched B5, erratically and out of order, not the best of circumstances, I remember being terribly bored by the Lorien sequences. I loved them later when I watched in sequence. I've never been sure whether it was age or just having the darn thing in order...and understanding a little more of what was going on!
I love The Summoning, and Lennier's look is one of my very favorite scenes with him. So many emotions in one look. Delenn's look back at him when she takes off to join John is pretty telling too. I like the contrast in Garibaldi and Zack's expressions too.

Hair--now I liked shaggy John quite a bit, although military cut John is quite nice too. His hair mirrors his role at the time.

The time limit I think is more important than you do. It affects everything between them for a while, and then it is pushed into the background, and then it comes back at the end. Although death is inevitable, most of us go through life not thinking about it all that much. We certainly don't live our lives as if we know we have limited time. It's a profound and penetrating knowledge.
