I can't for the life of me remember who Uchiha Madara was. Was he an ancestor or something? Or something from one of the Itachi flashbacks?

Founder of the Uchiha Clan. Has been around since the beginning of Konoha, fought the first Hokage and threw a hissy fit that he didn't get the position. No idea why he's still alive. It must be magic.
