having lost his Shikon-enhanced power he tells them that he would only be a burden to them in the quest to destroy Naraku.

Yet not having super-powers never seemed to bother Sango, and she doesn't even have generic demon strength.

Though she had a lot more of a reason to chase Naraku than Kouga did, I suppose.

My impression is that Takahashi didn't know what to do with Kouga anymore so she disposed of him. :/
