Is it just me or does Beck's new song "Lost Cause" sound like a total rip-off from the music in The Foo Fighter's "Walking After You"?

They sound alike to me. I keep wanting to start singing the wrong words to the Beck song.

Oooooo.... now local rock station is playing "Glycerine" by Bush... god I love this song. Every time I hear it I'm reminded why it's a) my favorite song ever, and b) why it's my favorite B/S song ever.

"It should have been easier by three
our old friend fear and you and me"

...

"I needed you more
when we wanted us less
I could not kiss just regress
it might just be
clear simple and plain
that's just fine
that's just one of my names"

Made a cake for the mom-unit's birthday. She demanded rum cake, which I love, but I had been hoping she'd want chocolate. Haven't had chocolate in a while, and rum cake is rather odd for b-days. But rum cake it was. With chopped walnuts. Yum. Smells absolutely wonderful. Now I'd better get to wrapping before it gets too late...

I'm going to pretend the rum cake's inebriated you past the point of common sense. Let us never speak of you comparing Beck to the Foo Fighters. Ever. Again.

Hmm, looks like you took my last post a bit too seriously. Dunno about the similarities between the songs, but if that's what you got from it, more power to you :)

I wasn't taking your post seriously.

"What's your damage" is a Buffyquote. I've been waiting a while to use it. :)

I was trying to ask which one you think was so much better-- Beck or Foo Fighters, since you disagreed with the comparison, but didn't state a preference.

Ohhhh. In that case, Beck wins by a landslide. Although the song comes from Foo's magnum opus, Beck's Sea Change clearly hands it its ass :)

Well, I sat down and listened to both songs last night, and I still think they sound eerily familiar, and I still side with the Foo because their song came a few years first. Though I usually don't compare the two, because it's not the same kind of music, and I've heard a limited amount of Beck, I admit. But it definitley sounds alike and the Foo Fighters song definitely came first. Forget who you think is "better". You should take a moment and listen to them both too--and you tell me then that there isn't strong similarities.

Similarities tonal wise? Yes, I'll give that to you. Similarities lyrically, I'd have to say no. That's why I love the Beck song much, much more than the Foos Walking After You.

well, no, the lyrics are totally different. But the music sounds very similar to me. Not jsut the tone-- the pace and everything.

What version of Walking After You are you listening to? The one from The Colour and the Shape or the one from the X-Files Movie? Cuz if it's the movie, I could see the timing thing. The one off Colour seems faster, in my opinion.

Okay, I'm convinced. LJ's acting wonky today. I can't get through to post but you're still getting 'em. Stupid LJ. Anywho, the X-Files version is more spacey, more in the vein of Beck's Sea Change, while Colur and the Shape is more hairband-ish. Spuffy CD? Is that [livejournal.com profile] elfgirl's CD?

Yes. Weird thing, there. I was doing the copy/paste thing to keep my message intact in LJ quit in the middle of what I was doing, and accidentally put that line on the bottom of the reply to you. It's actually the top of my recent LJ entry. Oops.
