HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, premier reactions
Laughing at unfunny jokes just because your crush said them. Oh Barney...damn I hate embarrassing scenes. I just can't stand people be awkwardly humiliated, in movies or on tv. This season is going to hurt. But maybe there will be kissing?
"Smart, funny, beautiful, the whole package. It's everything you're afraid to let yourself want. ...in a joke." Wow. That was... aloud. It's lucky for Barney that they all think his humor is kind of weird already anyway.
"I think I'm in love with Robin." Wow! That was earlier than I expected.
"I caught feelings bad." I love NPH's over-dramatic, ridiculous Barney facial expressions and voice changes.
"I sleep with that chick, I'm thinking about Robin." Aaaaaaaaaand he's back! Lily's expression in reaction to that is quite amusing as well.
Ted looks really good in those jeans. He looks...fit, or something. I've never noticed that about the actor before. Or it could be that he tucked in his shirt. Sometimes that looks really good on guys with jeans.
Ted and Barney are wearing color-reverse shirts. Interesting. They look very similar in these scenes.
"...and a pretty clingy one at that." Heeeheheee.
"Deal." Oh, yeah, like that's not a total lie.
Reporter!Robin wears too much lipgloss. But her hair looks good.
Dude, you have to be REALLY dense to date someone with a peanut allergy and not know it. You tell people early on so they don't accidentally kill you. Aahhhh, sitcoms.
Barney's phone call? I've made that panic face when calling people on the phone. Not usually those sound effects, though.
"You left a voice but it wasn't male." Ha! I've forgotten that Lily is usually the only rival for Barney when it comes to great lines on this show.
Barney's panicking is great, but I love the GLEE with which Lily shoves the phone at him.
"Robin, I was wondering if..." Oh, that's so painful. I love it.
"What a legendary prank that we're never going to speak of again." The second-later camera-cut to video? That's why I love this show.
"...that sounded alarmingly close to Ted?"
"Hey, Ted hit that for over a year." I love that Lily gets all these lines that in any other show would be given to a male character.
I love Marshall. I do not love Marshall's hair.
"So, Robin tell me about your day." This made me snort/snicker. It's just so...I don't know. I snickered.
"Be gross. Be inappropriate. Be Barney." And thus was born a thousand LJ icons!
De-wait-for-it-lightful? Shoot me now. No, shoot smitten!Barney. Robin looks like she wishes she could.
"Hey, so..." She's going to mess with him, isn't she? Awesome.
"Well your teeth look fantastic."
"WHO ARE YOU?"
I hate sharing things I love and have watched a million times with someone who hasn't, because I always end up staring at them obsessively to see their reactions, like Ted in this scene. Except The Lord of the Rings, because I can't look away from that movie when it's on.
MARSHALL! That was a great pop-out. This show does quite a lot of physical comedy...I'm always noticing it, forgetting, then noticing again.
"Sometimes I want to be someone you can have an actual conversation with." Okay, that's good. Hold tight, buddy, you'll get there! Also: Damn, Cobie Smulders is about five times prettier than everyone else on this cast. She's almost too pretty to be a major character on a tv show. Hm... her yellow and white dress is stylish in the front, but I'm not keen on the sides and back.
"We both know you're more than that." Didn't Lilly just say that to him half an hour before?
I like Stella. I don't think she's the mom, but I do like her.
"Hold that thought?"
"I will."
Aaaaaaaawwwwww. I'm such a sap. And so is Barney, deep down.
Sarah Chalke has such wonderful comic timing. In this episode we're seeing more of her personal side and less of the physician, which is endearing her character to me.
"I do."
"Well then Ted's a lucky guy." That was a very well-written exchange. Clever but still with some emotional heft. Good delivery by the actors, too.
"You were so nice to me tonight, I wanted to return the favor." Yup, Robin's totally clueless. I figured they'd start with her character this way.
"I'm just a guy who's in love with the girl who just left, and she's never gonna feel the same way, so I'm just gonna go."
I was spoiled for this reality-switch reveal, but it still amuses me. Especially since I expect Barney could easily have said the above line and meant it AND still used it as a way to get sympathy sex from a random stranger. It's pretty horrible about the game tickets for her family, though. What an ass.
She's hit him like three times by now, right? :snert:
