I swear, if she falls in love with RitchBitch, I'm going to quit this show. Like seriously quit it. Because that kid is so deeply fucked up he makes Veronica Mars's season 1 Logan Echolls look like Mother Theresa. And I can't ship that, I seriously can't.

I mean, he wasn't the lovable mixed-up dork from season three when he first met him. He was a bully and and an angry jerk. Yet, I wanted him with Katara. There had to be a reason.
The answer is because Zuko wasn't a bully because he was bored or thought he was better than everyone else. It was established early in "The Storm" that his anger had root in real issues and that he honestly did try to do the right thing. It was pretty clear that if he could get himself on the right path, then he would be someone to Moreover, I think it was pretty clear that wasn't going to be true love lead to his redemption. (Though MAN, the Season 2 finale had me going there for a second!) It would come because he realized it was the right thing.
And one other thing... If someone had put a red card in Katara's locker, instead of being scared she would have tied it to her book bag like a badge of honor and proudly marched through the halls in defiance. I might have been tempted to stick with the series if it included a scene like that!
