It's day two and I'm still not bored with hearing this stuff.
With four executive orders today, our new President:
* Ordered Guantánamo Bay shut down
* Banned torture
* Ordered a full review of U.S. detention policies and procedures, and
* Delayed the trial of Ali al-Marri, an ACLU client whose case is at the center of the Supreme Court’s review of indefinite detention policies.
YES!

Date: 2009-01-23 02:58 am (UTC)The Guantánamo Bay thing is the best and the most surprising. I dunno, I didn't think he'd do it that fast. But still, awesome.
oops.
Date: 2009-01-23 03:51 am (UTC)* Banned torture
That place's existence weighed on us* all, as did the ongoing torture. I am so relieved to have a president who has a lucid ethical philosophy that agrees with the Constitution and international law and that he's carrying it out.
*I know there are American citizens who support torture and that Guantanamo Bay was created and run by American citizens. I'm conveniently forgetting they exist?
